Debo is poorly!!!! Empty Debo is poorly!!!!

Post by jola139 Wed Jun 12 2013, 16:12

I'm not sure what's wrong with him. So a bit of backround. Yesterday morning my OH took him for a walk, he took Debo's rope. He swang him  and suddenly Debo let go and ended up in high grass. When he landed he howled and run back to my OH. He checked him everywhere, he seemed fine. For the rest of the day he was fine ,playfull, eating fine. This morning as always I gave him his breakfast he ate a bit ( nothing new )and when I was getting ready I've noticed that Debo is doing cat back  ,you know like a bow and his neck getting bigger, very hard . It lasted maybe for 5min and he was fine. Came back from walk ,he finished his food, later played with ball on the walk. When I came back from work I found Debo in his cage, he said hello.less happy then normal. I took him for a walk and after few minutes I've noticed that is happening again , his neck got very big , I had to take his colllar off. Took him to the vet straigh away. The vet is very young ,didn't help a lot, gave him some injections and said to keep eye on him and come back at 8pm. I nearly cried there. He doesn't want lay down on his stomach, he walks slowly and now he's a sleep. We are in the proces of changing his food as well ,now he get 50g with is old food. Do you think it could be from food? I'm loosing my mind. It's so hard to see him like that.

Debo is poorly!!!! Empty Re: Debo is poorly!!!!

Post by KarlyandDoug Wed Jun 12 2013, 16:34

I'm afraid I can't be much help on Debo's other symptoms but Doug does the cat neck thing all the time - almost like a stretch and his neck goes really big and hard. I think this part if fairly normal in (male?) Staffords. He may have just landed funny when he was playing yesterday and could be a little sore. Maybe give it until tomorrow then see how he is.

Hope he feels better soon Smile

The vet told me not to feed him today but just to check if he;s interested in food, gave him peace of cheese. He ate it like mad. He's a sleep now.

Sounds like he may have landed funny/awkwardly when he was out with your OH. Let him have some rest and see how he is tomorrow, if he still seems in pain try another vet at the practice.

Poor boy, could be numerous things from a bad landing (spine / leg / hip  damage) rib damage ?
Defo sounds like he's in pain with arching his back etc.

Sounds like he needs a thorough going over to rule out breaks

So,the vet checked him all over. He seemed find, gave him painkillers as well. On the way back had to carry him on 3rd floor. He slept for 1hr,when woke up was hungry. And very playfull. Took him back for check up. She said that he can have a bit of food and the painkillers works 4 24hr. And looks like he injured himself.Hope we don't have to go back tomorrow.

It's something with his neck. When my OH holded his head like you want to pull dogs head towards you,by holding skin, Debo yelp. My OH said it was the same sound when he fell in the grass.

So,we've been woke up by DEbo at 4am. He sleeps on our bed, he was moving around, finally ( he's never done it ), he came to me,level with my face and lay down. I knew something was wrong. He had another attack. Found emergency vet. On the way there ,Debo's attack was over. The vet told us that it's not neck, back etc injury , Debo was  stung by something and he has alergic attack from time to time. Another injection. If he's fine today just comme tomorrow for check up. I hope it will be over soon.

I don't know any more. I keep worry. I've just noticed that first attack was yesterdaw at 5.50am,2nd around 4pm, 3rd - 4am. So almost every 12hrs. I have my concerns because a) if he was stung by something wouldn't he be swollen straight away around his neck? And it would be gone after the injactions? I know the vet said that it will be coming back until toxin get out of his body,but... B) if it would be some injury wouldn't he be swollen all the time and would have problems moving? When the attack is over he's back to being happy, playfull dog.

Oh no how scary, is there any pain anywhere on his body if you apply pressure? I'm not sure what it could be given the symptoms but perhaps hes jarred something (can a dog slip a disk?). How is he today?
