Microchip Problem
Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone couold help with this please. A neighbour of mine bought a 7 months old rotweiller several months ago and she is having many problems getting her microchip details updated. The previous owner will not reply to any calls or emails from her and she is now very stuck as what to do. Unfortunately her vet was very unhelpful when she asked for his advice. Any input would be much appreciated

Re: Microchip Problem
My mum had a simular issue with a "stafford rescue" that would only have their details on the chip not ours. If the dog was lost they would rehome her and we wouldn't get her back!
My Mum's vet wrote a letter to the chip company explaining the problem and requested they change the chip details to mum's. Your friends vet will be able to do the same. The "rescue" are none the wiser as the chip company aren't obliged to notify previous owners. As far as I'm aware their is no cost but that could be different with each chip company

Definitely good advice. I think that's your best option.

You're welcome hope your friend gets the chip changed over ok
I wouldn't have been much help if my Mum's "rescue" wasn't as unethical as they were!

Re: Microchip Problem
If the vet was unhelpfull last time they may well be the same this time, time is money....
If you have no joy there then the local dog warden should be willing to help. they arnt just there for the bad things about dogs and most are more than willing to help in a situation like this. In fact they are a great source of local info for dogs and getting your dog known to them in a good way can be very helpfull should they go missing.

Re: Microchip Problem
Thats pretty standard for rescues to be fair. If someone rescues a dog and lets it get loose then they should get it back once but if it happens again then they really shouldn't.
Best of luck to your mum though
