Stag Bar
Finally got Gwen and stag bar..she loves it!!!! Has been carrying it around the house with her all day! So glad I got it, one of the few things she has been unable to destroy within 20 minutes! I would recommend it to anyone that has a pup/dog that loves to chew

Re: Stag Bar
Def can not go wrong! They are much less popular here in the US and I had a hard time finding one. The price ($20) was a little hard to swallow at first! But now that I see it will last a long time it was well worth it! So glad I finally got her one, today she chewed it for 2 hours straight until I finally had to take it away from her for a break! Thanks to everyone who recommended them!

Re: Stag Bar
Zeus didn't like his at first, he didn't touch it for the first month or so, but after that he loved it, I've got a good few around the house. Perfect to shut him up for an hour or so lol

Have you tried soaking it in cold water overnight? Or smearing a little peanut butter on it to get her going?

Re: Stag Bar
Daisy still doesn't have hers either, I have tried soaking in water, soaking in tea, even smeared it in cheese spread but she just licked it off then left it!! Any other ideas anyone?

As daft as it sounds, whenever I want Zeus to play with his stagbar and leave me alone, I pick it up and start sniffing it and making it look like its mine and I want it. I'm guessing he gets kind of jealous because he'll then want it and will go nuts until I give it him! Just a thought, might work for you

I was lucky Vinnie took to his straight away. I don't know if you could dissolve some marmite in boiling water and soak it in that? just an idea

Re: Stag Bar
Doug just out right ingores his and I've tried everything to get him interested! Soaking in water, tea, marmite, speared cheese, peanut butter all over it - just licked it off. I did buy a large one as he is a champion chewer so maybe it's a little tough?
Any other ideas would be lovely!

Re: Stag Bar
Densil lost interest in his stag bar too and I tried soaking it in various things. I bought him a half fallow antler though and he seems to be a bit more interested in this, although some days he can take it or leave it, so it must be something to do with the shape. I also bought him an anco root which he had a good go at and now that is also left and not touched.

Speaking of antlers...
Seamus loved his Antler when we got it for him... and they last forever. But!...
a few months ago, Seamus broke off his lower, left Canine tooth. It cost us about $2500. for a root canal, as we believed it would be best for him. (btw, we finally have pet insurance). Anyways, while having our chats with the doggie dentist, we found out a few things when it came to chewing toys, etc.
Antlers are not good for their teeth. yes they love them, and they last forever, but being so hard, they only help to wear down your dogs teeth.
the nylon dog bones are also not the best for them. I know this from personal experience, as one day I noticed that as Seamus' big strong jaws allowed him to start making marks on the nylon bone, the indents he was creating, were sharp and cutting his mouth. I have since removed it from his toy collection.

Re: Stag Bar
Poor Seamus! $2500 for a root canal that is terrible! I'm sure it was pretty painful for him! I hate nylabones! My brothers dog has one and Gwen got a hold of it and ripped off big chunks in a matter of seconds and then tried to swallow them whole! Luckily I got to her before she could swallow it!

Re: Stag Bar
I should have been more clear... he didnt break his canine on an antler or a Nylabone... he broke it while at the beach, chasing sticks... God knows how! we found out about the nylabone and antler issues while visiting with the doggy dentist. since then, we have put both away... But Seamus does appreciate the sympathy... Today, he discovered wasps... groan!
Re: Stag Bar
Our dentist also suggested either avoiding stag bars or only allowing them when under supervision .. our vet also noted that she had two dogs in for surgery to remove parts of antler that had broken off and gotten stuck in their tums.
I guess like everything else, supervising chew times and checking for broken/sharp areas is important!

Re: Stag Bar
I got stag bars for mine for the first time a few months ago, they didn't quite know what to do with them at first but once they started they literally didn't stop chewing them for hours, and I had started giving them to Reggie, but then came accross this article http://www.dentalvets.co.uk/news.html
to be on the safe side I'm going to stick to nylabones, raw bones and heavy duty kongs for my 3 from now on..
