Takes no notice
Hi could you lovely people give me some tips on how to get Herbie to start listening to us when we tell him no.
We are finding at the moment when we say no or stop or enough he paws you & makes growling/gruffy noises (not aggressively as he waggles his tail & body the whole time) it's almost like he's back chatting & being cheeky just like a teenager!!!

Re: Takes no notice
Zeus used to do the same, and he still does. I'm guessing Herbie is still a pup?
Whenever Zeus is being naughty, I say 'no' in a firm tone and turn my back and ignore him. I only give him one chance to listen to that, if he doesn't, I simply pick him up and put him in another room to cool off. I then let him back in after a minute or so. This works with him as he doesn't want to be in another room, he wants to be with us.
When he was younger, there were times that I used this technique a number of times, almost 8,9,10 times in a row, so be patient. It did work though.

Re: Takes no notice
I would say that you need to work on getting his attention. I would practice getting his attention so that when you say his name he looks at you and waits for an instruction, then you can say stop/leave or whatever. I would start by giving him treats just for looking at you when you say his name, see how that goes

When we tell him no or leave or enough it's said in a firm manner, he does normally listen but at the moment he's being a teenager which is frustrating.... He is roughly 10/11 months xx

Re: Takes no notice
Have to agree and say it's just a phase. They all go through it. Just stay consistant in what you what and the behaviours you don't want and make sure everyone in the house does the same and the stage will soon fade out
