So this is kind of one sided to those who have males,but how many peoples dog cocks his leg when doing the job! No not that job!! Having a wee!! Just that sid doesn't and he is one my mates doesn't and he's two so was just wondering if it was a staffy thing??

Dempsey will, but if there's nothing to lift it up against, then he just stretches out. In fact he often starts & then just carries on walking while he's doing it!

Duke will lift his leg up on anything twice and if its only a small lampost he usually gets me and if there is nothing to lift it too then he sqwats down and wees all over his front legs. I didnt know a dogs bladder was so big Smile

Dempsey pees when he's pooing! The trouble is, his chest is so deep that his pee hits him & soaks his chest! I have to wipe him down every time we come back from a walk with damp kitchen towels!

Correct me if im wrong but I think they learn it from other dominant male dogs. Also it is a territorial boundary marking thing so neutered males who have less testosterone are less likely to lift their leg?

I've never had a neutered dog, so I don't know about that bit, but they don't learn it from other males, it seems to be an instinctive thing.

Really, someone told me it was learnt from other males. But thinking about it makes sense otherwise dogs which were never around big-boys would never lift their legs (and they do Big Grin

). Thanks Caryll. I'm not 100% sure about the neutered male thing but I've just usually noticed that boys who have been done tend to squat!

thats one ov the reasons my vet gives for not castration untill 10 months as it gives them a chance to mature a little and get there doggy traits becouse they say a nuetered dog will never learn or have the incline to lift his leg

Ty started lifting his leg at 7 months and if we are in a field he will look for tufts of grass that are longer than the rest and lift his leg on that lol. But he does sometimes do a girly wee he also walks whilst doing it or as he poos as well lol. Funny thing I noticed the other day we have decking at the back of the garden and Ty had both front legs on the decking one back leg raised and 1 on the floor was straing to see weird dog lol.

Nitro didn't do it until his much later years then he hardly lifted his leg off the ground, but Harley is a regular leg cocker lol swaps legs as well he's only 19 months old. Guess it could be something in their genetics. or as others say lazy lol. Harley lifts his leg so high at time he nearly topples over lol.
