Help with toilet training
Really struggling to toilet train max he is 11 weeks had him now for two weeks,
Every morning in coming down the stairs to pee and poo,
His last meal is roughly 6pm last time he's out is 10pm and I'm up at 5:30 for work
Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong?

Your not doing anything wrong as long as in the day he is out often and praised when he goes. These things take time! Patience and consistency are key and there is no magic wand

Give him lots of praise everytime he does go outside and toilet, use a treat too. You will get there, early days yet

Re: Help with toilet training
had the same issues with Diesel, but the best way I found was to get into the habit of after he had a sleep we'd take him straight out to the garden.
now 18 weeks old and only the rare occasion that we have a accident.

Re: Help with toilet training
As said already it's still early days, you will get there. Make sure when he is out and doing his business you say your toilet prompt word as he's doing it so he starts to associate the word with the action and then lots of praise.

You're not doing anything wrong, they just sometimes can't hold it, just carry on with it:

Agreed. Frankie is 14 weeks this week and he is very good already. Lots of praise and a treat works wonders. Also as was said above ( toilet word ) our's is wee wee. They soon learn. Just hang in there and it will soon start to improve .. Good luck.

Re: Help with toilet training
You say you are coming down in the morning to pee and poo...how is Max doing during the day? My pup is around 15 weeks and I get up once in the night to let her do her business, I do have her in a crate all night and so far she hasnt peed or anything in that, but once I hear her getting restless I get up and take her to the garden. Yes it is a bit of a pain having to get up in the middle of the night ( I am also up at 5am for work) but I know it won't be forever.

Re: Help with toilet training
11 weeks is still such a baby! Gwen is 5 months old now and still isn't completely house trained!! It takes a long time and a lot of patience..some pups catch on quicker than others but regardless at 11 weeks they have very little control of their bowels/ bladders! At 11 weeks Gwen needed to go every 30 minutes! How frequently are you taking her outside during the day? Take her out every 30 minutes during the day and praise her like crazy when she goes in the right spot. When she goes in the wrong spot just ignore it and take her outside as its your fault for not getting her outside not her fault because at this age she just isn't capable of holding it!! Gwen must have had a million accidents in the beginning until we started taking her outside every 30 minutes! She has improved so much but still has occasional accidents, all of which are my fault for not getting her outside! Patience and consistency are key! If you do this she will start to have less and accidents and then eventually none. Also use a key word, we say "do your business" say this as they are going so they start to associate this phrase with the act of going to the bathroom! Good luck!

Re: Help with toilet training
Two weeks is nothing. Don't forget that a dog doesn't have full control over his bladder & bowels until he's around 5 - 7 months old at least! Yes, some are roughly house trained at about 11 or 12 weeks, but they're in the minority & they'll still have the odd accident.
For the first couple of months I usually get up at around 4am just to let a pup into the garden for a pee/poo, then back to bed. I know it's a pain, but it does help.

Re: Help with toilet training
youll have a while yet before he is capable of being fully house trained. Just been through it twice so know what your felling but it does work out okay. you sound like your doing it perfect so dont get despondent, lil fella may need to go with urgancy sometimes and may not even be able to let you know he needs to go. Laska was just like this, one min playing and running about and next she would be looking sheepish even when the back door was open. I knew it wasnt her fault as when on walks she would be okay one min then desperate to find a place to poo. in less than 5 secs she had to go bless her.
she is now as good as marley and is able to let me know when she wants to go, so dont give up. the endless poo and pee is the trade off for the cuteness, and beleive me Ive had my fair share of cold wet poo between my toes at 3 in the morning

Re: Help with toilet training
I would definitely be getting up at least once during the night to take him outside! Just for a minute and then inside and straight back to sleep! He may not be able to hold it all night yet! At this age if they have an accident that should tell you that they couldnt hold it, they needed to be taken out, and you didnt get them out quick enough! Gwen could only hold it for about 5 or 6 hours at night at that age!
