Zoo Worker Killed by Tigers

Terrible story of zoo worker Sarah McClay who was attacked and killed by tigers at South Lakes Wild Animal Park, near Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria on Friday:

Go in a pen with tigers, you're going to get killed eventually. They should not be in captivity.

Horrible it is always a risk though, no matter how well they do in captivity and how much they get used to people, they are still wild animals. Most definitely not deserved though, RIP to her.

I wondered why she was in the pen alone with them. Surely this wasn't the correct protocol

She was maybe just a bit complacent. the kennels i worked in had a trained attack GS and one of the workers forgot to close his pen door before she went around the back and let him in from the outside pen, so he got loose. She was there alone so she just put a lead on him and put him back in. She said she didn't realise that he was that dog, she thought he was the other one but realised when he walked into his own pen. I think her sheer stupidity saved her life, because if she had of reacted in any way to him she would have been dead and a really good dog kennel would have been ruined. She was fired lol

Haley I totally agree, if you wanna put yourself in a pen with tigers, you should expect the worse. They're wild animals, not pets, and shouldnt be exploited.

Dreadfully sad, a young life wasted and her family devastated, through what was in all likelihood a moment's inattention and/or complacency in an animal's reaction (and probably was an animal she knew well).

The sad fact is though that soon the ONLY tigers left alive will be those preserved in zoos, so we mus'n't blame zoos or the nature of the animals contained in them.
