Gwen has pink eye!!
Gwen's one eye was completely surrounded by crust this morning when she woke up! We called the vet and they told us it was probably pink eye! I was surprised because I wasnt even aware dogs could get pink eye!!! Anyways we took her to the vet they examined her and did a test with these drops to make sure there was no damage to the eye. Thank god there was no damage at it was pink eye! They gave us drops and she is already improving. My poor little girl..I was wondering why she wasnt 100% herself the last day or two and now I know! Has anyone ever experienced this before??? The vet also said we can actually get the pink eye from her!

Oh no! Poor Gwen!
I haven't experienced this myself but I was vaguely aware that it could happen. I'm glad she's feeling better now with those drops.

Re: Gwen has pink eye!!
Hope you both are on the mend, such a contagious thing conjunctivitis! My son had a weepy eye last week and I thought "Here we go more time off work" but it was gone the next morning so just a reaction to a current virus.
Something I didn't know until recently was that if it was pink eye that it could be passed onto our puppy Bella!
Sorry to hear you now have it - some tips to avoid cross contamination and re-contamination:
- continue stringent hand washing before/after handling your Gwen
- wash hands straight after touching your infected eye. DO NOT touch the infected eye and than touch your other eye!
- For myself and my kids I've always thought that warm salt water rinses to the eye area are more effective than any drops. To do this take a bunch of cotton balls and a bowl of warm salty water. Take one cotton ball into the water and take one sweep of the eye and than dispose. Repeat this until clean and than use a dry tissue/cotton ball to dry the area. Follow with the other eye if required. Wash hands straight away. This can be done with Gwen as well. I'd do this at least 3 times a day, especially upon waking and before bed and any other time as required to clean out the gunk! Should clear up in 3 days!
All the best!
Lisa
