Worried :( advice needed! Empty Worried :( advice needed!

Post by CaraElizabeth Thu May 16 2013, 04:19

Hi everyone! Gwen is now 5 months old..this morning she threw up twice after eating her breakfast around 7:30am..the throw up was a mixture of water and her kibbles. She also had really really runny diarrhea 2 times in about an hour and half (usually she only poops 3 times a day and they are firm) The last two days before this her poops have become slightly loose. She ate her lunch and dinner and kept both down. I was so relieved and figured she probably just ate some grass or something. Then about an hour ago we were going outside for a walk and she threw up again..99% water with 2 or 3 of her kibbles..I am worried..thinking about calling the vet tomorrow if she throws up again! Am I just being paranoid or is this cause for concern and i should get her to the vet as soon as possible?? Have not switched her food or given her anything different to eat or changed her routine at all. ANy advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'd take her to the vet, just to be sure. If it's nothing to worry about then you've got that peace of mind and if it's something treatable then they'll get it looked after.
Is she alert and active as normal or does she seem lethargic?

Acting completely herself besides the symptoms i gave about..still ridiculously energetic as usually and alert. She isn't acting like she is sick or anything. I think you're right and a trip to the vet is a good idea. Always better to be safe than sorry. Plus if I don't take her I will just go crazy worrying about her :/

If she is still well in herself and acting normally just try to give her bland, small meals for the next 24hrs.. A little cooked chicken and rice is usually great or a little scrambled egg.. If it doesn't settle down in a day or 2 then the vet it is Big Grin

Great advice above, especially regarding bland meals. A trip to the vet will put your mind at rest, though. How is she today?

I think I would phone the vet and see what they advise. The bland food will also help.

A few days on boring meals will help, chicken and rice and plenty so small supplies of fresh water. Logan was great at making himself sick as a pup, it happens don't worry to much as long as she's eating and drinking Smile

If she's acting like herself, it's probably not a huge concern. Agree with what's been said about giving her chicken and rice for a bit, and if it continues, take her to the vet Smile

If she has no other symptoms then the vet will just tell you exactly what you've been told on here. Cooked chicken and rice, if she doesn't get any better in a couple of days then it might be something more than an upset tummy. Make sure she is drinking lots too so she doesn't get dehydrated. Hope she is better soon

If she's drinking normally & is lively with no temperature, I wouldn't worry too much. They all get the odd tummy bug, and starving for a day followed by bland food usually does the trick. If it carries on for more than 2 or 3 days then a trip to the vet might be necessary.

Sounds like a stomach upset, if mine get something like this they often throw up undigested food. I would wait at least 24 hours til you go to the vets and get her to drink lots of water!

A couple of shots of Kaogel might help as well.

Hi everyone! Didnt have time to get on here before going to work today. This morning Gwen was no longer throwing up and her poop was a lot less loose than it was yesterday! She seems to be back to normal thank god!

Also a good day because my boyfriend finally managed to find one of Gwen's baby teeth! Weve been searching for 3 weeks and most of her adult teeth are in so i was starting to think it was a lost cause and we were never going to find one! Its one of her molars :O She is growing up way too fast! But at the same time we are excited to see her full grown!

Caryll- what is kaogel? just for future reference! Ive never heard of it. Maybe we dont have it in the US? Details pleaseee Smile

It's a Kaolin mixture for animals - a bit like Kaolin & Morphin, but without the morphine!

I don't know if you can get it in the US, tbh.

Hey guys. Today Gwen's poops are back to being very runny! She has pooped twice in her crate today..once 10 minutes after I had her outside for an hour. She has not had any accidents in at least a month! I am thinking this is due to the diarrhea! I am worried..I think I need to pop her into the vet to get checked out! Any ideas on what could be causing this?

If it is back again already is it perhaps what she is eating? Maybe she has developed a sensitivity/allergy in the kibble you are feeding her? Try her on the bland food again and if that fixes it I would think it is the food upsetting her tummy.. If you are concerned though a trip to the vet wouldn't hurt Big Grin

This sounds very similar to what was happening with Tommy. I kept going back to bland chicken and rice and he was fine. Then I'd go back to normal food and he'd start again. After trial and error i identified the peanut butter that I was using in his Kong (a lot of people use it without problem) was causing it.
Since I've stopped giving it him he has been fine.

That is so strange because I give gwen a frozen kong with peanut butter twice a day maybe total to 1 tablespoon..I will try to eliminate this and see if it helps.
