Walkies....help?
Having trouble stopping Barney pushing towards the back door when we take him for walks. We put his harness on and try to walk over to the door to open it and before i even get there he is pressing his nose against it, so I can't open it. I've tried calling him away from the door and standing in front of him. He keeps doing it. Is it just a matter of patience?

Yeah probably, I make Daisy sit (calmly?!) by the door while I put her lead on, otherwise she's biting my boots in excitement!!

Re: Walkies....help?
I'd say it's just a matter of over-eagerness. All dogs love going for walkies and can't always (ever?) work out which way the door to ecstasy opens, so may inadvertently block their way to their heaven in their eagerness to get to it.
Personally, I would just drag him back by the collar whilst opening the door, but if it bothers you then sit and stay (or wait) training would be the way to go.

Suki is the same way but our door pushes out. I would do a sit and wait before taking him out. You can also practice this at meal time

It's sounds like just excitement darcy can get a bit giddy too at this time.

If it's a problem then get him to sit while you open the door. It won't stop his excitement, but it'll make opening the door a bit easier!

Hi Ozzy does the same thing but I now make sure he is calm before we go out. I make him sit and ensure that I go out of the door first, if he pushes past me then I make him go back indoors until he does what he is told, he soon gets fed up!!!!!!!!!
