James Wellbeloved
I am feeding Bruno on james wellbeloved and according to the chart 3 months (hes 11 weeks 4 days) he should be having 160 grams a day for a puppy weighing 8kg but Bruno weights 7kg, 6kg puppy should have 125 grams a day, don't seem enough, i give him 2 handfulls each feed, i feed him every four hours or when the bowl is empty , for instance i feed him at 6.55am and still have food in it and next feed should be a 10.55am but if he's still got food in his bowl then i don't bother. am i doing right, as i don't want to over feed him. any advice would be gratefull

Re: James Wellbeloved
Im guessing there just guidelines. Like babies everyone is different. If he likes the food and is eating it I wouldn't worry. If he is leaving some maybe it's cos he has had enough. If he seems happy and is growing I wouldn't worry too much

Re: James Wellbeloved
iv never payed mech attention to the guidelines you just know howmuch they will eat it may also be a case he only wants 3 feeds aday as thats all memphis would eat at that age but i never left the food down longer than 15 mins

Re: James Wellbeloved
They are only examples of how to feed so dont worry if you take away any food left by him so hes not mid munching then he may be hungry at the next feed but he looks great on it.
I feed the same food and swear by it

Re: James Wellbeloved
yes i agree if hes left food after 10 - 15 mins pick it up ,they soon get to realize 'if i don't eat this now it ain't gonna be there later'.and don't fuss him or make it a big issue with him or believe me it will become a big issue later on .if he leaves it ,pick it up try again later ,at the end of the day a dog or any other animal isnt going to starve them selves

Re: James Wellbeloved
I'd pick up anything he hasn't eaten after about 15 minutes. If you leave it down he could 'pick' at it and spoil his appetite for the next meal.
But like the others, I've never gone too much on the amounts on the packs, other than to get a rough idea of where to start! If your dog's healthy & lively you're giving the right amount - if he's putting on too much weight, or losing weght then you adjust the amounts accordingly.

Thank you for all the tips , taken on board what everyone has said
Fed him at 1pm as he fell asleep at 11am till then and so did i
He's had some and now is lying on the sofa as usual So it is time to get the feed up and offer again at 5pm, should be really hungry by then or i maybe offer it at 4pm ,what you think ?
So glad i have found this site, so much good advice off people that know about staffies

Re: James Wellbeloved
Well i fed Bruno at 4pm and all the food was gone by quarter past
Ok now for a stupid question
If his meal times are regular , will this help with his housetraining ? as he seems to do his business all times of the day! thought we were getting somewhere when he done his business outside but he seems to have gone back to the start again

Re: James Wellbeloved
I'd take him out a little while after feeding him ,i think the main is getting him used and accepting that toilet is outside,if he has an accident don't make a big deal about it just clean it up,don't give him a row or raised voice, just move on to next time or he may associate toilet with a row or being shouted at ..
