Not eating dry food - teething?

Hi all

Chiquito has been off his biscuits for the last few days .. he has generally been eating less/not as excited about meal times as well but still does eat his egg and meat etc. Usually he is a great eater so I have been a bit worried he was feeling poorly .... but when he ate through the wood on the back gate today (who needs one of them anyway ) I checked his teeth - he has lost the ones at the front on the bottom and there are another two that I can wobble quite easily.

Would I be right in thinking the lack of interest in the biscuits could have something to do with the teething?

Can def be a lot to do with teething. Logan would go like this quite often as a pup. Best just baring with him though because once you start adding new thinsg to food he will expect it in future.

Albeit, I always found a drop of EV Olive Oil made the kibble a bit more appealing and it isn't hard to do.

Could be, but he could also be being picky, in which case you'll just have to persevere and letting him know that biscuits are just as edible as meat

Definitely sounds like he could be teething. Give him lots of cold things to chew on that helps numb his gums. Ice cubes, frozen tea towel, frozen kong with peanut butter or something will all help him.

Frozen carrots are good when they are teething See if you can find and keep a tooth, I still have 2 from my first Xx

Yeah Steff went off her food when she was teething too As already said lots of cold things to numb the gums, Steffs fave was a frozen carrot.. I was a softy and gave her soft food (diced chicken, scrambled eggs etc) for a few days until all the wiggly teeth were gone and the new ones come in But they can as already said set you up for fussiness later on..

Definately could be the teething. Suki's appetite wasn't affected at all but alot of dogs are a little less eager to eat and can become picky with food. Frozen treats are a great help.

I was worried about the fussy eater thing so hadn't offered him anything other than the usual, but when I saw his teeth I felt like a big meanie.

I think they must really be bothering him .... He slept 13 hours last night and after a little play in the sun this morning is back asleep again. Still hasn't touched a biscuit and also didn't eat his egg or mash that he usually has with his biscuits ... even left meat in his bowl (but did eat it out of my hand).

Will try a couple of ice blocks and the frozen carrot today and see how he goes.

Aww, poor pup. I used to put a tiny bit of warm water on the kibble to soften it which made it more appealing during teething. But as already said, iced goodies are the way to go!

Aww yes darcy went through the same thing when she was teething, lots of ice chips & frozen carrots as janey said, should help him out, poor boy

Anything frozen should be great while he is teething, carrots, banana, Kong, ice cubes too, I'm sure he will be fine. ><

Tried the frozen carrot today without much joy, have filled the freezer with all sorts of bits and pieces for him though and will try with some of these tomorrow.

Had a little luck with a handful of biscuits, warm water and some olive oil at lunch time ...... though he didn't eat at all again after that so I am sure he will be starving in the morning and a little more happy to give it a try

Good luck with him, hope he picks up soon. Naughty teeth casuing so much trouble. Let us know how he gets on

Riley is 5 months now and has just lost most of his puppy teeth, I would try a stagbar, I bought one and he lost 3 teeth within about an hour. He loves Ice cubes too.

Just a little update - plenty of ice cubes and frozen kongs later he has now lost all of the teeth bar one little stubborn top one, and the new teeth have broken through the gums.

He started eating biscuits and all again yesterday morning and hasn't stopped since - think he is making up for a few days of having a hungry tummy

Unfortunately we can't get stag bars here in Australia Thanks for your suggestion though!

My best advice is a kong type thing i the freezer. Even icecubes or some frozen meat.
