I haven't a clue, some people here can break down foods very well. Moo is on Royal Canin and I swear by it. I hope it works, to be honest as long as the dogs energetic, shiney coat, bright eyes then all is great. Make sure you swap over the foods slowly though mixing with the other food bit by bit gradually x

Well he's on the royal canin now but im sure he's not 100% liking it as he will eat it eventually if theres nothing else offered to him, but if i take him round to my freinds he goes nuts for his dogs food which is iams and wolfs the whole bowl in seconds so im just gona try a different food which sounds just as good as royal canin just to see if he likes it more

Hope it works, do swap it over gradually though. Its important, well obviously, to find a food the dog likes. Is it wet or dry??

Orijen is a fantastic food, though very high in protein so your dog will have lots of energy! It is all natural and contains no artificially manufactured vitamins and minerals, they come from natural sources. All the meat they use is human grade (so no feet, eyeballs or connective tissue for pooch's tea), it is a very good complete food I would rate it over royal canin.

However some dogs just dont suit it and their digestive system wont adjuts to it, so if after a very gradual change your dog has the runs or bad wind then I would consider switching back. Another good thing about Orijen is that you dont have to feed as much, therefore what comes out the other end is smaller and easier to clear up

Have you looked at Pero? They also do one specifically for the Staff. We have gradually put our little Nala on the pero puppy, if you ge tthe trial you get some free organic treats too! She seems to like it and her coat is looking amazingly shiny! It's really reasonable in comparison with the other brands and super quick delivery.

We give Orijen to our cats on nutritional advice, we were feeding them go cat before that - ignorance is the only excuse I have for that lol
As a previous post said, it is all high quality and no added rubbish, it is great and they love it, plus because it is so high in protein they eat less of it so it doesn't work out much more expensive.
We haven't used it for Tinsel yet as we have a food manufactured in our area that is just as good but not quite as expensive, and as with our own food we like to buy local if we can Smile

I switched mine from a cheap brand over to Orijen and the difference was noticeable.
His scratching and itching stopped completely, and his stools became a lot smaller and harder, and were only delivered once a day as opposed to multiple times.
There's little filler in Orijen, so portion size can be reduced while still meeting calorific requirements (protein supply is also high).
I get mine direct from the importer - arrives by courier on free delivery the next day.

Post by goldie87 Mon May 21 2012, 12:34

After researching thoroughly about Orijen, I've decided that I'm going to give it a go as it contains 'ingredient ratio of 80% meat, 20% fruit and vegetables, and 0% grain'(as listed on the website), compared to the 24/25% that Wainwrights has (which is what Zeus is on right now). Yes, its considerably expensive than Wainwrights but apparantly because of the rich protein content, you don't have to feed as much. Zeus does tend to scratch/itch alot and I've read reviews which say that this food stopped that. Will keep you all informed!

my question is.. which do i buy orijen puppy or orijen puppy large?

Looking at your pic has definatly persuaded me to go for orijen now, skye's coat looks brilliant, nice and shiny, and she looks very healthy too!

can you confirm if you feed Skye normal orijen puppy food or orijen large breed puppy food?

I love Orijen, but then I live only 2 hrs from the plant that makes it, so it is readily available here in all the stores. Champion Pet Foods in Morinville Alberta also makes Acana, another high end kibble that many dogs do very well on. Both brands have several choices in type of meat depending on what your dog might do better on--one type mostly chicken, another beef, another fish and then a wild meats version with venison and bison. I don't know how many kinds are exported, but I am grateful to live near the producer! Smile
