Update on Axl's off lead behaviour
Some of you may remember one of my first posts on here was about Axl pinning a dog down when he was off lead and he wouldn't let go well... after months of recall training and letting him meet dogs whilst he's on the lead and trying my best to teach him to be "nice" rather than jump straight on a dog's head he's been getting better so yesterday I finally bit the bullet and agreed to take him out with our friend's pug and I have to say I'm amazed at how well behaved Axl was, they had fun together rolling about on the floor, mouths open and tails waggling, Axl was almost quite gentle with the pug!
The whole day went rather well the only incident was back at the house when Frank was constantly trying to clean Axl and after a few hours of it Axl had had enough so he growled and kind of squashed Frank with his body but he didn't use his mouth. We seperated them and they gave each other wide berth. I didn't know whether to let them carry on playing or not after that, I got the impression Axl was tired but a few times he went to go towards Frank and I called him away, maybe I should have left him?
I was anxious when they were playing and I watched them constantly just in case but I feel like i'm finally getting my confidence back and hopefully I'll be able to introduce him to more dogs I trust

Brilliant to hear he's made progress, well done to you both it's such a lovely and proud moment when you see them doing better. I think you're right to separate them if one is getting annoyed. Telling off the other dog is fine, but you don't want it to go any further than that, so that's the point where you step in, I think.

Yeah I think if I'd have let him go back he would have got a bit grumpy again we've planned another play date for bank holiday Monday so fingers crossed that will go as well as yesterday
