What is it with wood?
Lily looks for it, chews it and eats it given half the chance. She is fine in the house and has only had a go at furniture on one occasion, it just twigs, branches and trees. She will do it in the garden or when we take her for a run off lead. I know its not good for her insides but just don't know how to stop her. Does anyone have any suggestions, I would be very grateful.

Re: What is it with wood?
Sorry I don't have any suggestions other than to distract her with something else, a toy from home or a treat for leaving it in the first place, darcy am does love a stick plus our decking at home someone will be along shortly with some advice

We usually just give a correction with her collar and try to stop it before she gets a stick. Although off lead is an issue still

Loki sometimes love sticks, and the rest of the time he ignores them. But I think teaching her a strong 'leave' or 'drop it' would be helpful (maybe with the help of a treat or favourite toy).

Frankie is obsessed with wood too. When he's off lead I throw a ball for him so he chases that rather than sticks, but he still like to carry huge sticks home! As already said the leave it command is also good

Re: What is it with wood?
Tommy has never chewed any wood inside the house but has chewed my shed when he was a pup , stopped now though. He used to catch sticks and kill them now he mostly likes to carry them so if Tilly isn't going mad trying to get it off him I find its a great distraction for him when passing other dogs, he hasn't got a care in the world and all that matters is his stick so they pass by without even a second look most times

You could try swapping the wood for a toy or a safe stick, these are available from Amazon, quite pricey so have a good look around you may find them at a better price:

Thanks for all the advise. She has one of those safe sticks Kathy and always has a stag bar on the go, guess I will just have to work on my leave command

Sounds daft but are you sure she eats it? Moo is a huge wood chewer, looks like she is eating it but in fact she chews it and spits it out Xx

Logan is the same, he crunches it up but spits it all out after. So I just let him work away.

Yes she does seem to eat it Janey, I wish I could say she didn't. If she just spit it out I would leave her to it because she does seem to enjoy it.

Re: What is it with wood?
Koda loves sticks.. always running ahead just to have a lay n a chew before you get to her then off again the bigger the better too.. runs past you close and if your not quick enough shel take the back of your legs with it and over you go.. chews them to pieces ... im sure shes crossed with a beaver.. ive been using Drop it..Ah!! and it stops her... til she finds another one she likes the look of.. she is getting a bit better so i think the command way is starting to work slowly
