First bitch season?
Just wanted to know if it's possible Lola is in season. Reason being she has started licking her vulva an awful lot recently, but she is 5 months and 1 week.

Certainly could be coming into season! If it is then come and ask any advice if you need it. Moo came into the season the day her neutering op was so I found out first hand lol!

No Tracie, once they have been done thats it, no bleeding. Apart from not wanting to breed mine I have the op cause of that!

We had Tilly done for the same reason, and the health benefits such as reduced risk of mammary tumours
It's a shame really she has a great pedigree, but I couldn't for the life of me see her have puppies, she's teeny tiny

Re: First bitch season?
traice we made them with old/new towels with a little hole for the tail but you have to make a few.
Re: First bitch season?
It's certainly possible at 5 months to have a first season. Keep an eye on her & if you see blood and/or swollen vulva then she is! Most bit.ches will have their 1st saeson any time between 5 months and 18 months, with the average at around 6 or 7 months.
I used to use my dad's old underpants with a hole cut out for the tail!
But yes, you can buy 'purpose built' ones from any large pet stor - I know for a fact that Pets at Home do them.

Re: First bitch season?
he alright because he was getting fed up with the blood that nearly end up near the ceiling at one stage he wanted to get rid
Re: First bitch season?
My dad kept picking up underpants to wear & finding a big hole in them!

Re: First bitch season?
he use to wear them pants that had open bit in the the front so you only need to turn the m the other way around
Re: First bitch season?
Ha Ha im glad I wernt related to you lot using all there underwear for the dogs season
Its very messy so if your not thinking of breeding her and remember she should only be tried on her third season then think about getting her spayed

Yes, but I only used my dad's underwear; not mine or my mum's or sister's!
I agree that if you don't think you can cope with the mess etc, then you should get her spayed. Personally I would only do that after her 2nd season, but I know that others here disagree!

Re: First bitch season?
lmao @ underpants, thanks for making me smile for the day haha
I do want to get her spayed as I couldn't live with her babies being out there.
Her mum had 10 pups aswell.
And there is also the health reasons why I'd get her done and of course the mess.
I shall keep an eye on her the next couple of weeks. Glad I bought a 30ft long lead as I don't want her getting caught by male dogs at our dog fields.

If you do get her nappies before you can get her desexed please take a photo.. bet she will look adorable !!!

Re: First bitch season?
If she's coming into saeson now, you won't be able to get her spayed for another 3 months or so. The vets like everything to return to normal before they do it.

Lol, imagine a sanitry towel with elastic, The tail goes through a hole and then the pad covers her lady bits and a piece of elastic goes right round therer back and tum! Difficult to describe really. When Moo first wore hers, yes she tried to get them off, it was quite funny but they are relitivly tight, I did have to get a medium as I firstly got a lrg and she could get them off, I guess she just got used to it! It was only over night cause she came to work with me and I wouldn't embarress her by making her wear it in public

I'd make that about 3 weeks!

It was easier with the Border Collie - I told her to 'leave it' and she did! A staff on the other hand...........

Re: First bitch season?
I have never had a bit.ch but my old male staff Taz 1 summer fell asleep in the garden on his back and burnt his you know whats so I had to put aftersun on them and cover him up with a pair of my ex boyfriends dads boxers now that was entertaining when he came home from work lmao. Taz was pure white so would burn easily and some times look pink lol.
Sanitry towels for dogs I have never seen. Bless the poor bit.ch that has to wear them.

Re: First bitch season?
Thought I'd ask in this thread rather than start a new one as it's basically about the same thing.
Lola is now 6 months and I think she may be coming into season. Her temperment has changed aswell, by this I mean, when my daughter tells her to get down she growls at her and has snapped at her a few times aswell, and she doesn't seem to like the playing any more.
So my question is, do * get hormonal and snappy like us women who get pms lol as she dooes seem some what angry.

Re: First bitch season?
Some do, some don't. However, just because she's coming into saeson doeesn't mean she should get away with unacceptable behaviour. A gentle "no" when she growls will tell her she's wrong, but won't upset her even more than she already is.
I take it she's ok in every other way? Eating & drinking properly & still wanting to go for her walks?

Yeah, she seems fine otherwise, it was just quite a shock for myself and my daughter, such a change in character.

Re: First bitch season?
It's often the first season that's the worst because she doesn't know what's happening. The subsequent seasons tend to be a bit better. Are you getting her spayed?

Definitely getting her spayed, don't want her babies out there, but also for health reasons.
