Poor Skibadee
Skibadee had to go to the vets this morning. On Tuesday evening I was walking her with her two daughters when she grabbed hold of a stick lying on the ground. I noticed it get stuck behind her canine and she was trying to pull it out when bloody Tali saw and, thinking she was playing, ran over and jumped on the stick pushing it into Skibadee's soft pallet. I dont think any broke off as it was a hard stick and thought I would see how she went. She was really quiet that evening and hid in the bedroom but yesterday morning was much better and was eating fine, this morning I woke up and her poor neck was all swollen and she was wheezing where it was constricing her trachea.
We took her strait up to the vets, sods law the lift was broke and I ended up carrying 17kg of stafford down 8 flights of stairs. The vet looked at her, gave her an antiinflammatory injection and antibiotic and said she had to stay for an xray. Im so worried about her and I cant even concentrate on my work. I have to ring back at 1pm as she has to have an anaesthetic and wont be up til then. I just hope shes okay, Im going out of my mind with worry at work...

Oh, poor thing!
I hate sticks & wherever poss I don't let Dempsey play with them. But sod's law says that they'll find one & it'll be just the one they've always wanted!
I'm sure she'll be fine, these things happen. The main thing is that you got her to the vet for treatment as soon as you realised there was an infection. I take it the x ray is just a precaution in case any got stuck in her palate?

Yep pretty much, he says because shes been eating since it happened its more likely to be that the stick perforated her soft pallet and its just a secondary infection. I hope so anyway, she looked like she had mumps earlier. I just hope shes good for the vet I dont want to have to pay his BUPA bills aswell!
I do try and encourage Skibadee to play with balls and things but she loves to chomp sticks, we had only been in the park for two minutes too. Im sure she will be fine im just worrying....

Re: Poor Skibadee
Last time I was told by the vet "Call at 4 o'clock", when Dempsey had his operation for bloat, I was on the phone every half hour from about 2pm!
It's so difficult, waiting & not being able to do anything, but she's in good hands & I'm sure she'll be fine.

Re: Poor Skibadee
Right I spoke to the vet (at 12.59, lol!) and they knocked her out and had a poke about. Luckily none had broken off but the stick had perforated the underneath of her tongue and there was a big underlying infection which was what caused the swelling. Apparently they drained about half a pint of pus , but shes gotta have big antibiotics and lots of rest!
they havn't hit me with the bill yet, Ive got to pick her up at 4 so I'll be ready for the shock hopefully....
