Diarrhoea
Hi everyone, I have a 5 month old bitch called Dutchess who we have had since she was 9 weeks old.
There has been no changes in her diet, she is ok in herself- still jumping and playing and I wormed her recently.
We have a mystery on our hands. In the day Dutchesses poops are normal and solid but when I get up in the morning there are about 6 or 7 lots of loose poops on the floor (sorry tmi). My partner gets up for work at about 6 and he says there is nothing there when he gets up but when I get up at about 8ish they are there. They look a bit like cow pats and when I clean them up they have a consistency of jelly and smell nothing like poo, they just smell sour.
This has been the third morning in a row I've had this and I'll be taking her to the vets. Like I said she is fine in the day, and ok in herself and when we leave her overnight we make sure there is plenty of water and a bit of food for her to snack on incase she gets peckish. I'm taking her to the vets so will nip this in the bud but has anyone else had any similar experiences with their puppies?
Thanks
Emma xx

Re: Diarrhoea
Welcome to the forum from me and the Monster
Logan has had this from time to time, especially as a little pup. What do you feed Dutchess?
Going to the vet def won't hurt, but it might also be an idea to stick to boring/simple meals for a few days. Chicken and rice works well

Re: Diarrhoea
Does your partner let her outside when he gets up for work ?
That way she can wake up - stretch her legs, pee n poop and resettle till u get up.

Re: Diarrhoea
Thanks for the quick replies everyone, we feed her on dry puppy food (can't remember what it's called but it's been the same food for a couple of months) and she has some oily fish a couple of times a week to make her coat nice and shiny and to keep her dry skin in check.
I will try the chicken and rice for dinner later thank you.
My partner will let her out when he gets up if she wakes when he comes downstairs, sometimes she wont emerge from her basket and is still snoring her head off so he leaves her.
Thanks

Just had a look, it's pets at home moist and meaty complete puppy 2-18 months. My partner buys the food because we buy the big bags and he can carry them on his shoulder.
Thanks

Re: Diarrhoea
Are you sure it poop.. sometime Molly bring up a bit of food if she has swallowed something and it wont go down. Usually the offending item will come up to.. bit's of ball she has chewed etc. is it possible she could have snaffled something without you knowing..

Re: Diarrhoea
I wouldn't leave her food down overnight.. They don't need to snack through the night. Best off giving her dinner then nothing else at night to eat and see if that helps.. Also taking her out at 6am may help also.. My girl at 5months couldn't make it without accidents until 8am..

Good point, it is better to feed at set times etc then remove what isn't eaten. Especially when young and training

Yes very sure, there will be a couple of solidish brown poops, and then a few really loose ones. I'm just worried about the jelly likeness of the looser ones..

Re: Diarrhoea
I know it might sound odd but it might also be vomit. If Dutchess has had a poo where she isnt supposed to she will want to "clean it up". The only way she can clean it up is by eating it, sounds disgusting but it's what they do. I had a couple of instances of Tommy doing this and he made himself very sick for a night.
Hope you get it sorted.

Very good advice. Feeding at set times will also help get her bodily functions on a set routine and can help reduce accidents. Food goes through them quickly when they are young.

Re: Diarrhoea
Agree with what's been said and it appears 8am is just outwith her control. Although she appears to be asleep when he leaves, it could be that him moving about is just enough to bring her out of her deep sleep and she then needs to poo. As suggested if the OH could take her out at 6am that would help. Either that or you might need to get up just a bit earlier to pre-empt the situation.

Re: Diarrhoea
We have always had this routine, my partner gets up sometimes lets her out or sometimes doesn't. I will tell him to let her out every morning now.
We still have never ever had this diarrhoea until the past three mornings. I will also confiscate her food bowl until breakfast and try the rice and chicken for dinner tonight. I just wondered if it was just me who had this problem, it just seems at bit weird that it only happens at night/morning.
Thanks

Re: Diarrhoea
Just an update for you all.... My chap was off work today so I got up to let Dutchess out for a wee and a poo at about 8ish and there was only two lots of poo, one solid, one loose so whatever it is, it seems to be clearing up.
Thanks for the advice.
Maybe she eaten something nasty in the garden after all lol.
Thanks

Re: Diarrhoea
My dog ate poo once and he made himself ill. The sick did look like jelly/poo :/ Could be this? I would definitely take Dutchess to the vets though, just to be safe.
