dry food recomendations - Good quality food Empty Good quality food

Post by BIG SBT Mon Apr 15 2013, 20:15

Hello people Smile
im looking a good food for my pup boss, hes 4 months old and is currently eating james wellbeloved duck and rice kibble and he destroys it lol is it a good food or is it bad? i started him off on james wellbeloved turkey and he ate it fine and now hes on duck but it seems to be making his poo runny, is it possibly the food change?

my question is whats a good food thats not overly expensive and suitable for pups and can upgrade to adults Smile

cheers in advance.

James Wellbeloved is a great food Smile the problems he's got at the moment is the food change, it's meant to be done gradually over a period of a week or so, so it's probably upset his stomach a bit.

Moo was on JWB, its a good kibble, I moved her onto Fish4Dogs as she got loose poo too, Fish4Dogs was great and I recommend that Xx

The change may well have caused the loose poo. The only way you'll be sure is if you put her back on the chicken one & see if it sorts it out. Why did you change?

The James Welbeloved is a good quality food. Does he have anything else to eat during the day which may have contributed to the loose stools.

I give manny burns puppy, he's just abut to graduate to adult formula. We really struggled at first with various dry foods, they all seemed to give him the runs, but this one has been really good for him, and is classed as a good quality one too . And, pets at home have just started stocking it, so it's easy to get too

I feed JWB to Logan and it is a cracking food, he has been on quite a few and never liked anything but JWB. The duck/veg one is grain free so it's a top choice.

Pets at Home do deals on it all the time so it's well priced. There is one on the Boucher Road, you maybe already know that though!

When you change foods over, even if it's just flavours it's best to do it over a few days (7 if possible) or upset tummies can happen. But yea it does calm down after a few day.

I saw a massive difference in Logan when I went on to JWB.

There a lot more expensive foods out there that don't have a look it in comparison. I was feeding that Pro Plan before thinking as it was so expensive it would be great, but it was horrible, Logan wouldn't eat at all and what he did eat made him sick.

When we swapped over flavours with the Wainwrights we just did it without anything gradual (as advised by PAH staff too) and had no problems as only the flavour is changed the rest of the suff in there stopps the same , but I am talkin about for example Duck and Rice --> Lamb an Rice , not a change to XXXXX and potatoe for example

A few of us are trying out Eden at the moment and seeing good results. It came out top in Complete Foods in the Which tests. It initially appears expensive but because you need to feed less it works out quite economical. eg. I reckon it costs me around 90p per day feeding 250g. But if he's doing well on JWB just stick with it as it's a good food. But Eden would be worth considering if you have any problems as it is also holistic and hypoallegenic.

Not a lot of retailers just yet as they are a small fairly new company, but if you search Eden dog food you can get it direct.

I struggled to get both my dogs on a food that was right (price, quality and they liked etc) and tried Skinners field & trial and have never looked back, their on salmon and rice, quality ingredients and very good value

I've put honey on CSJ, it's very natural designed by the best but great for the pocket too. Before honey was on science plan but she kept getting upset tummys. I've tried Symply which was fine but expensive and not many places do it.

It's the name of it. It was developed by Ceri Rundle an international sheepdog trialist in 1998. It's all natural. I can buy dog and cat food, which is great for me as I have Honey and two cats aswell. It isn't in the shops but you can get it via amazon or the actual company altho that way they charge vat and delivery charges. I get it from my local stockist who is a search and rescue dog handler and it's far cheaper but still very good for all dogs.
