paddling pools and sand pits
I'm thinking of getting Densil one of those hard shell paddling pools and sand pits for the summer. However, he doesn't like rain - he just won't go out in it. He's never been near any water since we've had him so not sure if he will take to a paddling pool. Anybody else got a dog who doesn't like rain but will have a paddle, or got any advice.

Loki doesn't mind the rain now, but he did when he was younger, he HATED it. But he's always enjoyed the water. You could always try something a bit smaller to see how he reacts, or see if he'll wade into a lake a bit or something first?

Roxy's not the biggest fan of wet weather and uses the shell as a big drinking bowl!
Vinny on the other hand flies into it, sticks his nose in the water and snorkels round and round!

I have been thinking of getting one of these for Rocky this summertime, that is of course providing we have a summertime this year, I'm sure he would love it to cool off in.

Daisy hates rain and won't go in water, she's improved at crossing streams but still tries her best to jump over, I'd literally have to throw her in a paddling pool!!

Re: paddling pools and sand pits
Logan wouldn't use it sadly. But a lot of Staffords do seems to enjoy a bit of a paddle/cool off so it would be a good idea for warm days.

Blue loves to splash about in water but he also only hates the rain if he is asked to go and get busy in the garden. Take him on a walk however and he don't care if it's lashing it down

Re: paddling pools and sand pits
Thanks, will get one and see how it goes. He loves to drink water from outside so it will be a big drinking bowl if he won't paddle in it. Unfortunately there are no lakes/streams near where we live and we don't have a car so walking areas are limited for us.

Re: paddling pools and sand pits
ok got it. ordered it from argos yesterday and arrived today. It's the hard shell shaped one that comes in 2 pieces. Put just a bit of water in the bottom and a couple of his toys in there this afternoon as it's quite nice and sunny. He's had a couple of drinks of the water, but that's it for the moment. May get some sand for the other half and see if he will dig for toys - he doesn't dig in the garden at all.

Aww that's cool, great idea, darcy doesn't like water so I may try it to see if I can convince her otherwise

It's still sitting outside on the patio and he hasn't shown any interest whatsoever.

Re: paddling pools and sand pits
This is a fab idea - i love this website.
I have just gone on bookface now to ask my friends if any of them have one laying around that they dont want.
Not sure if Louby will like it though. She HATES baths with a vengeance, not too bad in the rain though, if we are walking.
So if i can get a freebie/cheapy one then it wont matter if she doesnt like it.

Frankie hates the rain, so much so if he's walking and it starts heavily ringing he starts squealing and tries to run home! But he loves to have a paddle!!!

Re: paddling pools and sand pits
Maxi doesn't like rain or water very much, but I got a paddling pool and on the really hot days here she will get in it after a walk to cool down.
On hot days I also encourage her to play in it by throwing food and toys in the pool, and if it's really hot I get in the pool with her lol
