Re: Looks like Trouble !!!
If they tackle the issue of dangerous dog rather than demonising a certain breed I'll be more than happy. Something def has to be done about dangerous owners/dogs. Some of their aims are actually pretty good.
•Examine the implications of a change in criminal law in section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991
•Discuss the microchipping of all dogs in England from 6 April 2016, the regulations to be introduced and stakeholder requirements
•Assess the recommendation to develop a voluntary code of practice to set minimum requirements for any internet site offering dogs, puppies or pets for sale to adhere
•Consider allowing owners to retain possession of their dogs until the outcome of court proceedings
•Share ideas with local authorities, the police and other agencies and explore solutions to tackle dog-related antisocial behaviour and crime

"Explore the recommendation to add other types of dog to the list of banned types and to review the individual cases of banned types of dog that pose no threat." That doesn't sound entirely good, but hopefully common sense will prevail.

Re: Looks like Trouble !!!
That's the bit im worried about. Looking on FB earlier, there's a few people going to defend our breed. The chair of the Breed Council is one of them and a few others. I belive there's money set aside for this called the "Westminster Fund".Tara wrote:"Explore the recommendation to add other types of dog to the list of banned types and to review the individual cases of banned types of dog that pose no threat." Now is a good a time as any to put this fund to good use

Hopefully common sense will prevail. If they actually look at statistics and take issue with dangerous owners and dogs then we will have nothing to fear. If those attending or rather those who have a vote are led by the medias protrayal of Staffs rather than actual dog bite statistic then we could have a problem. I find it quite interesting that Staffies are quite a way down on the list of REPORTED dog bites yet when one does come to light all hell breaks loose in the papers. I personally think there should be more control of who can own a dog - any dog. Maybe all dogs should hold at least a bronze good citenzen award. I also think that there should be a retrictions on dogs of any breed being let off leads and the number of dogs allowed in a house hold. A lot of the points being raised are valid ones and will hopefully get good outcomes.
