help! trouble with paw :(
i was playing with Bruiser earlier and i noticed that a part of the black pad on hes back paw is missing on the end and between two toes is very red......... its very red and sore. it doesnt actully look like its been cut off or sliced but more just wet and sore, but part of that pad is gone, there isnt any blood and he is bounding about like a nutter still and isnt bothered by it unless we are tryin to look, then he gets annoyed and starts lickin it.
im not even sure when this happened and i no i have only noticed it by chance. for the moment i have cleaned it and applied antiseptic cream and tried to cover it with a bandage and sock whihc the bugger then chewed off! shall i give it a couple of days and see how it goes? im a nurse so i will no if it starts to get infected.
im just worried as my boy has never had a problem before
help!

It's hard to say without a pic but it sounds like you are doing the right thing. I think I'd give the vet a call as well just to see what they think.

I would think that if you kept applying the antiseptic cream and managed to keep it covered he would be okay. If you can't keep it covered you will have to wash it after he goes out so that dirt won't get inside and cause an infection. If it seems like it is getting worse or not healing than I would go to the vet.

That looks painful. Millie hurt hers a couple of years ago, the one higher up just sorta at the wrist area. The vet put a bandage on it, said to keep it clean and watch for infection. He did warn me that injuries to the pads can take a while to heal. Hope its looking a bit better today.

Re: help! trouble with paw :(
Hope Bruiser healed well
Noticed yesterday Ledger has pretty much the same thing he was chewing his paw about a week ago and I couldn't find anything then but yesterday I spotted a 'bald' patch on his paw pad. He doesn't seem bothered by it and is not licking it he just limps a bit when he ventures onto grass on his walk. Bathing it in salt water is easier said than done but when he is settled on the sofa he let's me check it. It doesn't look too sore it looks pretty much healed but I'm maybe not going to risk the long walks I had planned with him on my week off
