When my Jessie is left alone during the day will leaving the tele on for her keep her more company than leaving the radio on. Do you think it will cost alot of money leaving the TV on.

Does anyone do eithe of these

Thanks

I personally don't bother, all Moo does if I'm not there is sleep, and I can just imagine her to start barking at the tv if an animal came on Laughing

It'll not be much of a difference I don't think. If you leave your TV on standby like I and a lot of people do, it'll not cost much more to have it on.

If you are in doubt just look at your meter and see how fast it is spinning with it on/off. It'll not be much of a difference. Smile

I don't think it'll make much of a difference, but Mat's suggestion is good Big Grin I sometimes leave the telly on for Loki but not always, since he isn't too bothered.

Modern tellies don't use much power but it'd soon add up if left on all day.

It's a bit of a myth about standby useage. It probably used to be the case with fat CRT TVs but modern LCDs and Plasmas use almost nothing in standby. My telly uses something like 0.5w in standby compared to about 100w in use. If it was on all day that'd get expensive I think.

I experimented with leaving the radio and TV on when Mia was a pup but to be honest, she seemed completely oblivious to them both so I'm not convinced it makes any difference at all.

As said above, it's probably more likely to wind them up if there's a programme with barking dogs on.

We just leave some music on the radio for when Rocky is left. How much it would cost to leave the TV on depends on what the power output of the TV is. Plasmas use more power that an LCD/LED TV.

I don't personally do this but my sister leaves it on for her two. Bobby her cocker suffers from seperation anxiety though which may be what started her doing it.

I leave the tv on for Otis if we go out but we tend to leave it on sky sports news or a music channel rather than the chance of dog noises, whistles etc coming on and upsetting him. It doesn't cost that much more than leavin it on standby or leaving the radio on if its a plug in radio rather than a battery operated.

Guess what Ive had no scratching from Jessie for a whole week - I think it could possibly be coz I am leaving the Tele on for her and the scratching may of been caused by boredum.

It's very possible. Logan seems to want to nibble at his paws when he's bored.

Glad it's working for you.

Pixee does get upset when I go out, me more than my hubby or son, but she is coping better now adays as I dont see her crying when I leave like she use to, and I dont leave anything on for her, as she has her two chairs to sit/lie on by the window and watch for me to come home and be nosey too Laughing however on a night time which is rare, if we go out, we have to leave the radio on for her.

When Tilly was younger if we went out for a few hours we'd always leeve the telly on for her but always made sure it was on CBeebies Big Grin cost irrelevant though it's not much in the grand scheme of things.

These days since we got a new leather couch the dogs don't get the run of the front room so we don't bother anymore
