nylabone edible chew?
Hey guys, been a while. Super busy at work.
I tan out of chews for Marley, she is not super interested in her stag, never was. Out of bully sticks. She killed her old nylabone and chewed the ends off the brown plasticy one.
All I have left rite now is an edible nylabone from the 3 pack, are those safe? It's chicken flavored. I gave it too her and it's almost done, she has eaten more than half in 15 mins.
What nylabones are safe? She hates the white one in the 3 pack.
What type of chews are best? I'm gonna make a trip to the petshop in 30.
Time to upgrade her chews, she is 5 months.

Re: nylabone edible chew?
My pooch ate the two brown ones in the 3 pack but was a bit more fussy with the white one. they're edible durable toys/treats so yeah they're safe when supervised.
You can find hard flavoured plastic toys (not sure if they have a name) that are similar to nylabones but cant be chewed as easy and arnt designed as a treat, but the bits that fall off are small enough to pass through, so again are safe if supervised.

Ewww. Personally I steer clear of anything that isn't 'real'
Nylabones, rawhide and the like can be serious choking hazards.
Most pooches prefer kongs, or stagbars (deer antlers) all available from pets at home.

Re: nylabone edible chew?
I'd prefer to go with a stag bar, to be honest. Nylabones can be dangerous, no matter which brand you buy. By design, they're only supposed to break off in little pieces, but there have been some horror stories of dogs chomping off big, sharp pieces.

Logan has rawhide bones but he doesn't eat them. He just hides/buries them. If I saw him start to chew it though I'd take it off him, because they can swell up and cause blockages etc.
StagBars work real well for most dogs

Re: nylabone edible chew?
I got my first stag bar earlier this week, next day I had to get another as they were howling at each other for the first one. thought id get some peace..but no they both wanted the new one and howled some more. to summise, stag bars are great and even though they have whittled em down to stumps already there have been no big lumps comming off and no sharp bits.
As for Nylabones, I got my exes staff mastiff cross one for his birthday last year and although the ends have gone he still enjoys it. only problem reported was her standing on it lol

Exact same as me, when I first got Zeus, I used to give him rawhide and nylabones but was never too keen on them for the choking hazard they can potentially cause. Personally, I think nylabones are a waste of money, Zeus went through them in no time, he had the black strong one, forgot the name.
Stag bar is the only chew I give him.

Re: nylabone edible chew?
Honey had nylabones as a very small puppy and they did her fine but as she got her adult teeth they were no good. I have bought her a big adult nylabone which she does chew but to be honest I can't fault the stag bars she loves them and they last and dont harm them at all. I don't do rawhide either have heard many stories. She won't try the kong coz I put treats in these and she seems them as a treat toy not a toy to chew.
Honey ended up scratching her large colon and there was blood in her poo. It could have been the plastic flower pots she liked or the smaller nylabones, but let's just say I have now got rid of all that lol bless her
