Night time training!
Has anyone got any tips on training techniques to teach Ralph to stay in his bed of a night…
Now that he’s out of his crate at night, we’ve placed a bed for him by our bedroom door. He gets in his bed ok, and seems to settle, but at anytime between 12.00am (that’s the worst time) and 5.00am (that was the best time so far), he gets up onto our bed, tramples all over our heads, gives the OH the hump and makes himself comfy either on top of the covers (which means my bum is hanging out where I haven’t got enough covers), or he tries to get under the covers with us and seems to want to settle down at the end of the bed by our feet.
Of course, he then gets too hot and is then up and down all night.
We keep telling him to get back in his bed, which he might do, but only for a while and he’s trying to get back up again. This goes on all night. If I push him down, he literally moans, and will wait a minute then try and get back up again! Eventually I get too tired trying to push him off and inevitably give up. Bad move I know…
Ideally we’d only want him up on the bed/sofa when invited…
Any ideas? Tips? I don’t really want to shut him out?
Help! I am sleep deprived!!!

Have you tried installing a gate in the doorway? This is what happens when Densil goes to his foster home for holidays - they put his bed outside the bedroom door but have a gate so that he can see them, but not get in the bedroom.

Thanks Densil...
Do you think it would work if I put up a gate, and left it open until the first time he jumps up, then pop him the other side of it and shut it then? So he knows one jump and that's it!
The gate is a good idea, but the point is I want him to be able to stay in the bed of his own accord with no barriers?
I can certainly give it a go though?

Re: Night time training!
The gate does sound like a very idea which you may want to try to begin with. He may then stay in his bed without needing the gate there all the time.
Rocky sleeps on our bed anyway, thankfully it's a super king size one otherwise I'm sure someone would be sleeping on the floor and I dont think it would be Rocky
I usually wake up in the morning with a little black face looking at me pleading for a cuddle, and it's not my hubby's

Re: Night time training!
I have to shut Daisy out of the room or she comes straight in and gets in my bed!! Although I do let her stay with me sometimes as a treat, she know her bed is in the kitchen. I think if they have the chance they always prefer to sleep with you though so either closing the door or using a gate may be the only option?

Re: Night time training!
The gate's a possibility. But if you don't want him to get up on the bed, then the only failsafe way is to shut him out.

Thank you! Tonight I will try the gate... I will be in touch in the morning and let you know how it goes...
