new staffie concern
Hi
We have just purchased a lovely staffy as a companion for bruce
He a chunky monkey and very confident
The thing is bruce is very soft and today they started to play fight.
The pup is only nine weeks but got very carried away and was grabbing his neck and being very rough.
The thing is he is only 9 weeks old and apart from a little growl bruce ended ip running away?
He is 6 months as well !
Do you think we arr heading for a whole lot of troublr or do you think bruce will stamp his authority?
Never had 2 before. My sister said we may of been better having his sister instead?
Any help as always appreciated!!

Re: new staffie concern
Its hard work having 2 so close in age and especially 2 of the same sex, your really going to have to put the time and effort in thee training. They are a rough breed and play rough also, you will have to keep an eye 24/7 and if your not about they should be separated for now, just takes a bit of time with 2 pups but you'll get there Xx
Maybe you could come and say hi

Welcome to the forum
As Janey said, they do tend to play rough, so training is a must, as well as making sure that all play is supervised 100% of the time. If you need any help with the training aspect, please feel free to ask. We're happy to help!

Hi
Thanks , im not actually a new member.I have been ill for a while and hadnt been on the site.when I tried to log back in I couldnt remember my password etc!
Bruce is a very gentle dog, so much so that I wonder if he is a staff!
Saying that I know they can be rough as bruce had been playing rough with my sisters patterdale earlier on in the day!
It was the way Oz went at his throat and wasnt the usual play?
Like I said I expected bruce to put him in his place but he only did a little growl and then removed himself and every time Ozzy come over he moves!
Thanks for the suggestion re splitting them up when on their own.we are doi g it at the mo anyway but we will take yiur advice.
It confirms what were thinking

Re: new staffie concern
very very normal.
They play rough and yes they tend to go for the throat and wrestle. Alot like to pin each other, bite each other and general rough stuff.

Re: new staffie concern
It all sounds very normal espically with a pup. Just be sure to keep an eye on them. Here is a link on body language that should help

Re: new staffie concern
It's normal, just part of playing, but if they're getting too rough for your liking or if one is annoying the other, one wants to be left alone and stop being pestered, break them up so they can have their alone time to chill out. It is advised to have a bigger gap in age, so lots of training will be needed, but you'll get through it and of course always make sure they're supervised when they're together.

Re: new staffie concern
that what puppy do dont matter what breeds they are you have train him what right and wrong
Re: new staffie concern
Pups play rough and Staffords tend to be extra rough when playing. Very normal don't worry. Just correct it when needed.

Thanks guys, I suppose its only been a few days .The pup growled at him today and bruce let him have his toy!
Its weird if Ozzy wants ro lie with him, bruce gets up and moves all the timeThey did lie next to each other with me very late last night but I suspect it was because bruce was too tired.i do hope they click as we got Ozzy for company for him! He did play with him this morning and "took control"
Really hot and cold at the mo?

Re: new staffie concern
It's going to take a while for them both to settle with each other. It's easier for a pup cause he's only just left the squabbling world of his siblings - for an older dog it can take a few weeks to really settle & accept the newcomer.
The good news is that they usually do settle in the end!

True enough! Took weeks for the outlaws to get to love bruce due to all thee inaccurate bad press!
He loves playing with their lab.We are a very doggy family, never had 2 staffs together , only one. Just being neurotic I suppose! My last staff Max was a rescue and extremely aggressive towards anything accept for humans!
Thank god I proof read that last bit
The phone typed
"We are a very dodgy family ! Lol
