Introduction / considering rehoming a Staffie
Hi
Really pleased to have discovered this forum. Our doggy Barney died shortly after Christmas this year at the grand old age of 17 and a half. He was a Lakeland Terrier who we rehomed from the RSPCA when he was 3. He was pretty wild when he first came to us, had spent his early days ratting on a farm, before being discarded and then three attempts to rehome him failed before he came to us. In the end he turned into a lovely funny loving little dog full of character and charm, even if you could never fully trust him off lead and always kept an eye on him near other dogs/children.
We want to rehome another dog and until we'd started looking had no idea just how many staffies and staffy x were in rescue centres. It seems tragic that the breed is being judged by the behaviour of a few encouraged by idiot owners. We're thinking of rehoming a Staffy and wanted to find out more about the true nature of the breed rather than the media caricature.
Looking forward to reading the threads !
Martyn

Hi & welcome.
So sorry to hear about Barney, you must miss him dreadfully.
Staffs are lovely dogs - for the most part kind, friendly & loyal with a great sense of humour. Some can be a little dog aggressive, but it sounds like you're used to that!
Good luck in finding a rescue!

Barney was never really trusted with other dogs until he lost his sight and partially lost his hearing. Then he seemed to be all too aware of his limitations !
People look at breeds like Lakies and think 'cute doggy' not realising that they were bred originally for just the same purposes as bull breeds by and large. They can be real handfuls.

They are wonderful dogs I would always have them but realise the potential if the buttons are pressed they can be a handful and not for the faint hearted but they have the biggest heart for sure

So sad to hear about Barney. I bet he gave you so many great memories.
I have found Staffs to be stuborn at times but have an amazing charater which will have you in stitches with laughter. They also give 100% in just trying to please their owners and have a smile that makes you smile back.
You won't regret a second for choosing a staffy, best breed by far.
