Tragic news Empty Tragic news

I've just read that a teenage girl has been attacked and killed by what police report to be 2 Bull mastiffs and 2 SBT's at a house in Atherton, near Wigan. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family.

I think the press will be calling for some BSL (breed specific legislation) again to control our staffys. Also be prepared for more remarks from people while out walking. I don't think it'll be long before our little guys will be forced to wear muzzles. Will be a very sad day.

That is tragic, what a horrible thing to happen Sad. I haven't really had any negative comments, Staffs are very popular here, so hopefully that won't change.

Terrible news - I saw it on the BBC News website tonight - my heart goes out to the poor young girl and her family.

Whether it will result in a Staffy backlash remains to be seen.

A very sad day

very terrible news..my heart goes out to her family..however i think sometimes people wrongfully identify the dogs..maybe they werent SBT's who knows..either way it is the owner who is at fault and not the dogs..any dog can be raised to be mean and and dog can be raised to be loving and gentle..some people just shouldnt be allowed to have dogs!

Tragic news Empty Re: Tragic news

This was a tragic incident and the girl's family must be devastated.
Although I agree that there could be a backlash I also think it very unfair to demonize any breed of dog because of an incident like this. Not just because I am staffy owner but because I'm a dog lover and believe this to be another incidence of irresponsible dog ownership. In the exact set of circumstances any breed of dogs could initiate a crazed attack such as this and goes to highlight the need for much stricter legislation with regard to dog ownership in this country. Of course no party will instigate this because it would be political suicide in a nation of " animal lovers ?"

The real tragedy of course is the loss of a young girl's life.

Sorry for the rant. at wits end

let em talk Dave, any one knowing you and your dogs know how well behaved they are(even if you say Tommy's a little sh1t!) and what a responsible owner you are.A tough couple of weeks/months ahead for us and our beloved breed, all we can do is hold our heads high and try our best to reassure people that our dogs are not aggressive devil dogs some people might think they are and that we are responsible owners that train our dogs and get up at silly o clock in the morning because we take responsibility for them, cos They are the best breed.

I have similar worries Dave. There's a grumpy woman round my way that has always made a point of telling all the children to stay away from "that dog"I feel she will be ten times worse and am just waiting for a knock on my front door some day from someone I don't wanna see Sad

Logan is fantastic with all people and children. She doesn't like me because I'm the only young person where I live.
