Yes it is a very sad story, what relevance does the price of their property have on this story "Yesterday police stood guard outside the grandparents' £119,000 three-bedroom semi-detached home" Sorry but I just dont see the relevance of this point.

Will all Jack Russells now be banned ??

Oh my word Sad That is horrible.

Wonder why the dog and the baby were left? Jrt have a strong prey drive and babies can activate that drive (in any dog) or so I have always thought. So tragic, the family must be in some kind of state Sad

They are incredibly high energy and best when they feel they have a task or a job that is theirs to do. A lot of folks misunderstand, because they are small does not mean they are like some of the toy or miniature breeds that people cart around in their arms Sad They are a big dog in a little dog body and very very tenacious. I have also been bitten by a jrt, however this was entirely my own fault. Have known a few that were great, they need owners that are up to speed on the breed traits and the level of energy they have for definite.

Such a sad sad story, terriers can be bad for this kind of thing from tales i've heard before.
what peed me off tho is just watching sky news at work and while talking about this story and the increase of dogs attacks they still managed to picture a staffy type dog!!

Tragic news NOT a Staffy Empty Re: Tragic news NOT a Staffy

Post by gemlou Mon Apr 22 2013, 22:15

How sad, I was attacked by a jrt as a baby and have some small scars on my face to prove it. However i still love the breed, had another whilst growing up and have one now.

One of my current observations is that all my jrt's have been bonkers, intensely loyal to just one or two people and no more. The jrt i had as a young girl/teen clearly only bonded with my dad and i and not my siblings.

As a breed i feel they are suffering from misconceptions. All jrt i have known have required working dog training not lap dog skills. They have a very high prey drive that needs harnessing not ignoring and my jrt is far more tempremental than my staffy - yet because the jrt is small, white and perceived as 'cute' looking people actually tell their kids to pet him, yet drag them away from my staffy x. I was asked why my well trained staffy was off lead yet the jrt was not a few weeks ago and when I tried to explain that my jrt had no reliable recall in public and was easily agitated by other dogs and people where as the staffy was friendly and sound in charachter- i was informed that i clearly knew nothing about dogs and should read the papers.

I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or just groan with frustration.
