at 8 months old , noah is still very excitable with visitors and other dogs, he goes deaf when they arrive, we have tried all avenues but he still won't settle even when they have been in the house for an hour!!
today he almost collapsed with sheer exhaustion after chasing a pointer puppy around the kitchen for 30 minutes, the puupy was calm but noah kept nipping away at its mouth and peeing all over the place, will he ever grow up???

It def does get better with time. Logan is 15 months now and I've only started to see an obvious improvement in the last month and a half.

There was two ways I dealt with it depending on the situation. Either distract him with a toy, I would give the visitor the toy when I answered the door to give him. Or else when he misbehaved I put him upstairs in the bedroom for a few minutes to calm down then let him out, and repeated it if he hadn't changed the behaviour.

That said it took a lot of repetition and we're still not toally past it.

Just gotta keep at it Smile

8 months is still very young. My Shéara is 18 months and still gets very excited when people visit. having another dog in the house on his grounds will be novelty and exciting. I think selective hearing is a trait of excited puppies. We considered putting a baby gate up for when he jumps up at visitors and small children, it might be an idea? Or if you know there will be another dog around, meet on mutual grounds to let his excitement out first, it will be less of a shock than another dog entering his home straight away. We held Shéara back by his coller when we first had visitors becasue we were wary of his behaviour but as it turns out, hes less frantic and excited if you let him meet the visitors as soon as they come in so he knows whats going on.

He'll get better, just keep doing what you're doing, eventually it'll click with him. Loki only recently learnt manners with other dogs, and he still jumps up and sometimes bites people Rolling Eyes. We've only just gotten to a point where he can walk next to other dogs without going mad. It gets better!

Sometimes having a baby gate over the door can help so they can't get over excited, and also keeping them on lead when the visitor arrives until calm, it really a can help and speed up the learning progress Xx

My Kuchar at 15 month old is still very excitable where other dogs or humans are concerned, but in the last month or two he has shown signs of calming down - a bit! Still goes deaf though!
