Staffy Puppy and His New Older Brother
Hi, we have had a staffy puppy for a week now and the puppy and the original staffy who is 2 years old seem to be getting on ok, apart from some major play fits. My question is the puppy keeps biting and hanging onto the older staffys lips, whats the best way to stop this and is this normal?
I know puppys bite but hes got little daggers and its got to be hurting our older boy. Any help you can give will be great, thanks a lot

Welcome to the forum
Puppy play behaviour is quite extreme at times as I'm sure you've seen. It can become too much for some dogs after a while. So yes, you are right about thinking about breaking them up to prevent possible problems.
Best thing to do, is when you notice the play is getting too much, separate them calmly, you can correct with a firm but non aggressive "NO!" which can help. It also may be an idea to think about a baby gate or a safe room you can put the pup in for a few minutes when he misbehaves then let him back in. If he does it again put him away again right away.

Re: Staffy Puppy and His New Older Brother
As Matt has said, just make sure you intervene if it's getting too intense.
The older dog should be teaching your pup bite inhibition by yelping and stopping play if the pup bites too hard. If the older dog doesn't end play when the pup hurts him then you must so he learns that biting hard stops all the fun

Re: Staffy Puppy and His New Older Brother
Very typical OTT puppy play in my opinion, Logan was the same and still is sometimes. Staffords are very vocal when they play. But yes at times it might be worth thinking about breaking it up as it will possibly eventually annoy your older dog

Text book Staffy play , it is quite clear your older boy is happy with it , just watch it doesn't get too much but normally he will tell him off . Tommy was a nightmare with Tilly and I think sometimes I may have let things go a little too far as now they are bigger they regularly have little squabbles whilst out just carrying on the play and it starts to get a little annoying after a while
