Re: Staff breeding
Unfortunately I can say yes its been done before god knows why on earth you would want such a combination or why you would have an "accident".

Totally irresponsible IMO sorry, very sticky subject this one at the min and expect worse feedback than mine on this thread. :/
Have you researched all known health issues of both breeds and complications which can arise from such matings?

Welcome to the forum
I've moved this to SBT Chat for you.
There is a Staff x Shih Tzu on here, I'm not sure which of the breeds was the mother of the pair however. Hopefully another member can give more information.

There was another recent member who joined and their dog looked more Shih Tzu than Staff.

Hiya, an unfortunate mating as I'm sure u are aware.
Best advice I can give is, pop ur bitch to the vets and ask for the mismate jab. You can't risk a pregnancy.
The mismate jab can be given upto 45 days I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but thst is the responsible thing to do.
All the best x

By "SBT Chat" I just meant the "Staffordshire Bull Terrier Chat" section. Don't worry about making mistakes on the forum. We will try to help if we can.

Re: Staff breeding
U won't know who she has taken with until they are born. Or she could take with both. It's been known for a bitch to have a litter sired by 2 different dogs.
Anyway - the point is, this pregnancy isn't gonna do ur bitch any good. No health tests I'm presuming ?
Please get her to the vet - have the mismate jab. Otherwise you are facing huge vet bills and possibility of loosing ur bitch in the birthing process due to not being able to pass a big staffy x pup.

Re: Staff breeding
It is possible that the chihuahua was the father but it is totally impossible to know. It is too much of a risk sadly.
It might be worth getting her spayed also, if she has been caught by two different dogs in such a short time there's a chance it could happen again. This is obviously not good for your Shih Tzu at all.
I don't know the price of the injection, but if you phone your local vet they should be able to tell you no problem.

Re: Staff breeding
Hey and welcome what a little mess you have found your self in. I would advice the mismate as well. If they have both tried to mate then it could be either! For the sake of your little one i would do this and also there are so many cross breads in rescues or for sale we so advice not to add to it.
We hope u have found some good advice and you will stick around

As already said, you need to get her to the vet & ask for the mismate jab. It would be dangerous & unfair on her to do otherwise.

Why on earth would you want to do that? Another 'designer' litter to be sold for lots of £££s?
I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's very irresponsible.

Re: Staff breeding
If you do not take her for the mismate jab then she will most likely pass away during the whelp as it is very possible she could be pregnant to both the chihuahua and the stafford.
Do the right thing for your bitch.

Re: Staff breeding
If I were you, I'd take your bitch to the vets for the doggy equivalent of the morning after pill.
Going through with the pregnancy is very high risk and could result in the loss of your bitch. There's a very high chance of her requiring a c-section as she probably won't be able to deliver the puppies due to the size and c-sections are not cheap nor are they without risk.

Re: Staff breeding
Sorry to sound harsh, but i would be aborting the puppies too. It can potentially harm your bitch giving birth to such large puppies and people will get them thinking they will be small and fluffy but not be able to cope with the staffy traits. .
Also, with all the dogs in pounds and being dumped why the hell would you want to breed a chihuahua (not chiwawa) to your bitch? Sorry to be harsh but thats very irresponsible.
Also, with dogs, there are only mistakes if you let them happen.

Re: Staff breeding
I agree with every word above. The chances of your bitch being pregnant with even one X Staff puppy are just too high to take the risk on - please get her aborted! Even if she carries the pup/s to term, a C-section would be 99.99% guaranteed. And to be mercenary, you would never get your money back on the pups and they would likely as not end up in rescue centres, or worse.
And please, if you must breed your Shi-Tzu bitch, get all her health checks in place and put her to, and ONLY to, a health-checked and well-bred Shi-Tzu. Presuming that your bitch and the dog have good provable pedigrees and no inheritable defects, then you may get your money back on the total cost of breeding.
Oh, and please get your Staffy male neutered if you are going to keep him with an entire bitch you want to keep for breeding.
