Hotspot Remedies??
Steff has had a hotspot on her face now for about 10 days.. I have been bathing it in epsom salts and hot water and using a cortisone cream, and it seems to be healing one day then bad again the next Does anyone have any good home treatments for hotspots?? I have an appointment at the vet tomorrow afternoon, but any treatment that may help between now and then I am willing to try

Re: Hotspot Remedies??
One of my Collies used to occasionally get one on her back, at the base of her tail. I just used to bathe it with salt water & let it air dry. It used to clear up after a few days.
I wouldn't use cortisone on it unless it was absolutely necessary - I hate steroid treatments.

Yeah I don't like using them either, but everything that usually works, didn't this time.. She has had them before but nowhere near as bad as this one It is quite bad tonight so I booked her into the vet for tomorrow, maybe she needs a course of anti b's

Re: Hotspot Remedies??
It is like a form of dog eczema or Dermatitis, it usually starts from a insect bite or scratch, the dog scratches it, it becomes moist and weepy They are horrible things, the hair falls out in a ring around the sore and they are sore and itchy..

As an alternative treatment you may want to try dabbing a spot of honey on the wound, I have heard it has fantastic healing qualities.

Re: Hotspot Remedies??
This is an education to me, I've never heard of or come across a hotspot. Thank you for the explanation.
You say the hair falls out in a ring around the sore, could it possibly be ringworm?

Re: Hotspot Remedies??
I have a spay bottle of Tea tree oil and water that I made up for Molly if she has any little cuts etc.. and it really works. I also heard you can use anything a baby would use so a little sudocrem should be ok too.. But I recommend the T tree oil diluted with cooled boiled water in a spray bottle.
