Puppy to adult food.
Boba is 7 months and is on Butchers puppy food with Pedigree vital puppy dry mix, at what age should he go on to an adult dry food diet?

Re: Puppy to adult food.
A lot of people don't even bother with puppy food if you feed a good quality food (sorry to say but I wouldn't include Butchers or Pedigree in that).
I got a good deal on some Applaws puppy food so I fed that to Elmo until he was about 6 months then he went onto the adult Applaws.
A good website to check out dog food is www.whichdogfood.co.uk

Re: Puppy to adult food.
I recently moved Logan onto adult food. I wanted to keep him on it as long as possible, although I know it isn't really necessary.
I really recommened James Wellbeloved. Great price, always on good deals at Pets At Home. Hypoallergenic. Grain Free (certain flavours). And Logan has absolutely thrived on it

I moved Zeus onto adult food just before he hit a year old and I agree with the comment before mine, Butchers & Pedigree are bad foods, would recommend moving onto something better, like James Wellbeloved as Mat suggested.

Re: Puppy to adult food.
Definitely get him off the butchers & pedigree!
As long as the food is good quality (Wainwrights from PAH is a good, medium priced one) then he could be switched now, but obviously it should be done gradually over about a week/10 days.

Re: Puppy to adult food.
Hi, as people have recommened with regards to swapping his food i would agree. I have recently just swapped from a food that we would not recommend to wainwrights.
Since doing this tyke has improved over all. I recommend feeding dry food, and tyke loves his breakfast and tea.
wainwrights i feel it value for money, im just getting to the bottom of my big bag and this has lasted over 6 weeks. if you look through the link above and do some reasearch you will find one that suits

Re: Puppy to adult food.
Hi Di,
Yes, now would be the perfect time to switch him from puppy to adult food, I switched Zeus when he was just coming up to one aswell.
I would class staffies as a medium class breed and so do most people on this forum, I have always purchased him medium breed food and followed medium breed guidelines.
If he has a sensitive tum, go for something like Wainwrights or James Wellbeloved (Hypoallergenic foods) and make sure you transfer to the new food over a period of 7 to 10 days, gradually switching from one to the other.

what wet foods are best does anyone know?i have heard such conflicting things as i said we have had ben on pedigree puppy and he has been fine and had no adverse affects but it does seem he prefers to have the meat with his dry food otherwise he doesnt touch food

Re: Puppy to adult food.
I really don't like wet food at all - it's 80% water!
Have you tried adding some sardines in oil to his dry food? Or maybe a raw egg over the top?

Re: Puppy to adult food.
Any new food can give them bum gravy. One sardine with a little oil with each meal should get him used to them, though.

Re: Puppy to adult food.
Yep, raw egg is ok, mash it up with the shell and pour over his food.
I also put a bit of tuna on top of his food 2 times a week, also cooked chicken, salmon oil, olive oil, scrambled egg.
Just things to keep him guessing what he's going to get next and which are also very good for his coat/skin.

Yep, I agree with Goldie. Sardines in olive oil work great too for Logan

Re: Puppy to adult food.
We have just switched Caley to adult food, she is 1 on 2 April. She was on science plan puppy food and is now on the adult science plan. We tried Caley on sardines but she turned her nose up, loves Tuna though and mincemeat
