Broken my record for getting bitten this year!
So far, I've been bitten or attacked by:
Bitten by a rat last Monday.
She shot hairs at me. Moody little bug.
Somebody somehow managed to annoy one of the crested geckos. No idea how!
Was bitten by the chaco horned frog yesterday. He's so fat! Have to use both hands, spread out, to hold him. He feels like a squidgy water balloon.
Steve, of course, who often tries to strangle me. The lovely boy!
Berber skink. Sneaky little bugger. He buried himself in peat soil yesterday, so when I dug around to look for him, he took a snap at my fingers.
Luckily was wearing gloves. The giant galliwasp has quite a bite on him.
I didn't get bitten by this one, thankfully, but somebody else did. Quite badly!
Been whipped by the green iguana's tail. Lovely little charmer, he is.
The giant forest scorpion pinched me a couple of times.
Attacked by a monkey tailed skink, who luckily wasn't quite near enough to get skin.
Of course. She prefers to chest-barge and spit. But she has been known to bite.

They're some of my favourites!
It's quite funny, really. The rainbow boa, one of our smaller snakes, has the highest strike rate, while our most popular venomous snake has a strike rate of zero!

Oh dear. What course do you do? One of my old friends did something that related to working with animals but they just had some birds and goats and a tarantula or something. You have lots of very cool animals, especially the reptiles, love them though apparently they're not very tolerant of being handled

Animal Management. We have over 200 species. What needs to be remembered is that they're animals and will use their defenses when they're upset. They don't have swear words, so they have to use teeth, claws and muscles. If careful handling is used, the chances of being hurt are minimised. Slightly.

It's only the white rat that I have to watch out for. She's a nasty piece of work.

I'd be bringing Logan to protect me from the rats lol. I could manage the rest no problem.

Re: Broken my record for getting bitten this year!
It is interesting. A lot of fun, as well, even though it is hard work.
The worst thing about the rat enclosure is that it's in the Twilight room. It's a specially adapted room that allows to us to see active nocturnal animals during the day. In our daytime, the lights are off in the Twilight room and are replaced by a very dim red light. During our nighttime, the lights are on, which allows them to sleep.
The trouble is, it's very difficult to see in there. Especially when one of them decides to climb up your leg.

It would the running up my trouser leg I'd be more worried about!

That's why I wear PPE trousers. Not enough room at the bottom for animals to climb up.

Re: Broken my record for getting bitten this year!
I don't know why people make a huge fuss about them. Big snakes or venemous snakes, fair enough. But I've been nipped by the corn snakes, garter snakes and king snakes loads of times. You can barely even feel it!

Re: Broken my record for getting bitten this year!
Definitely, larger snakes do hurt when they bite. Luckily not as speedy as the smaller ones, though!

Re: Broken my record for getting bitten this year!
I think my most painful injuries have been the llama bite and the crushed fingers from the giant tortoise.

Should see the funny looks I get from people when I tell them.

Saw spider and cried. Saw scorpion and screamed. Well I would have if it was for real and not on a screen. Beautiful creatures though.

Little bit, Ella!
The scorpion isn't actually that bad. Very docile.

Ah, nice. Btw, how long did it take for you to get the license for your mini zoo? I've heard some horror stories from friends who've had to wait ages and get everything certified!
Our centipede died a while ago. Still have the chocolate millipedes and another huge one that I've forgotten the name of.

don't need a license as nothing i have is restricted you can keep snakes and reptiles without one!
Although i do plan on getting one in the future as i want an albino monocled cobra!
Well my millipedes died a while ago but have had a centipede before!
I don't think i've asked before but do you keep anything yourself or just everything at your course?
