Re: 2 male staffs ???
As a rule of thumb it's advised to have opposite gender dogs as it tends to help with thm living together.
However, it is totally possible to have two males dogs. Or two females. A few of our members do with no problems. It just might mean you keep a closer eye on them at times and never leave them home together unattended for a long period of time. Or at all if totally possible.

I don't have two dogs, but there are lots of people on here with two males or two females who get along great. People advise not to get two dogs of the same sex because they're more likely to fight, but not always. Just make sure they're always supervised together so if they have any disagreements they can be separated

Generally its a bad idea an not something I would think anybody would advise you to do.
Though it is possible to have to males or 2 females live together, just increases the risk of fighting and means more work for the owner in terms of thinking about what they are doing.
I would advise never to leave to together unattended as its likely you could home one day to a dead dog like a story I have heard on a forum before.
Just need to be a lot more carefully and watch them like a hawk even more than you normally would.

There's no problem with having two males, as long as 1 if them is laid back .
If both of them are dominant it could be a problem, as both of them will try to show each other who's the boss... As long as you watch them it will be fine, plus one of them is a puppy so it's easier to control things, just keep an eye on them and you'll be ok

Re: 2 male staffs ???
I had 2 males a while back, 1 staffy and 1 Labrador and they use to sleep downstairs together everyday, I use to go school and my mum had to go out and they'd be home alone and nothing ever happened and they were both males.
The Labrador was laid back, my boy use to play tug of war with the Labrador's neck because he was quite fat, my boy (the staffy) is also quite laid back and if the Labrador got * off he would stop and go do his thing.
You have to be able to trust your dogs to leave them alone, if you don't when you go out leave 1 in a room and the other one in the other room, also close the doors as my boy normally opens the doors by head butting them

Re: 2 male staffs ???
Arh the joys of two dogs lol huge positives as they tire each other out (if they play like mine do!)
I know a couple that have 2 intact male Rhodesian Ridgebacks and they get along fine. I think alot depends on nature and nurture! Post puberty everything will be alot clearer.
Enjoy the two of them but don't take any unnecessary risks (as I'm sure you wouldn't!).

Re: 2 male staffs ???
What I did with my boy and the new dog we just rescued was let them out in the back garden and close the door, bother played etc. Watch what they're doing and who's controlling the play and who's being the boss, my boy ended up either laying down to get the other dog to stop or go under a table so she couldn't get him, they were only playing but by that it told me that the other dog was "the boss" when they play.Lozzypops20 wrote:The pup is trying to be dominent already and the older dog is trying aswell will they work it out on there own or can i do any think to help the puppy know its place ??
I'm not sure how old your puppy is and if you let them out to play yet, but I'm sure they play in the house? Just watch what they do, I only stop my dogs from playing once one of them has had enough.
If you see both of them are trying to be dominant then there could be a problem once the puppy is older, what do you mean by the puppy is trying to dominate the other dog? How are they playing etc?

Re: 2 male staffs ???
Hmmm, does sound like your going to have a lot of fun over the next couple of years getting them to settle in together then.
Its to be expected though and you may find one of them give in quite quickly, here's hoping anyway.

Re: 2 male staffs ???
Well i don't do female dogs so would only ever have males.
I have a male staffy and male ambull and they get on like a house on fire never once in almost 2 years together had a fight or even handbags at dawn.
So yes it most definitely work it may just be harder work

Re: 2 male staffs ???
Nothing wrong with 2 male dogs! My two only ever had 1 scrap in 4 years, my gsd put my staff x in his place and they got on after, ( did take 6 months though until they could be in same room) lol shouldn't be a problem though if you monitor them closely, enjoy them

Re: 2 male staffs ???
I think its depends on personality. My parents had a make black lab (ben rip big un) and he was mega laid back and they bought another male when he was about 4 and they got on really well. Ben was laid back and jack was the boisterous one. If u feel like there is a problem just be extra cautious and snt leave them in there own
