Puppy classes Empty Puppy classes

Post by reuben Tue Mar 12 2013, 21:53

Just got home after puppy classes at the staffy training club. We were complimented by the trainer. Said how obvious it was that we had been putting in the work and how much Bacchus kept his concentration on me during the exercises. Love Struck Love Struck

good job man, whats your secret? there seems to be no high value enough treat to keep her attention. i have constantly tried to be the "most exciting thing in the room" but that hardly works. when she is focused and reigned in, she is on point with her commands and thats when im wearing my big smile.

The trainers have been good to us and we are working on keeping her attention when there are 15 other dogs around in class.

It's all relative. I used to have GSDs and in a class filled with them I think he would be way behind. But with the best will in the world, and I love him to bits, Staffs are a different kettle of fish and need much more work and patience. But our class is specifically for Staffies and much less formal, if not chaotic, and great fun. As with all training classes, the hard work isn't done in the classroom, but in the time spent every day working with your pup. Remember that he is still a puppy and don't overdo it, 5 or 10 min. sessions at a time is enough and if he starts to lose concentration stop. But always finish on a success. Never finish on a failure, end on something he can do, even if it's just a simple " sit " and always lots of praise and/or treats.
