hi all my puppy started puppy classes on wed night , me and my daughter really enjoyed this as its reward based training , then on the thursday night we now attend socialising classes , which i have mixed thoughts about , on arival we meet an agressive yorkie , which constantly attempted to try an attack my puppy , the owner was a stuck up bitch , that thought she just brought her dog and someone else would socialise it , during the excerise she went to the trainer and said that she felt intimated by our puppy and would prefer if her dog did not mix with ours , at no point did my dog attack or wish too , just wanting to play , he mixes with malmutes , spanish springers , labs , no prob , this women and her yorkie seriously * me off , then started saying to my wife about how dangerous staffs are , i corrected her , and said any dog is dangerous its the owners , she then attempted to say my dog was growling at hers lol , had to correct her again and siad he was snorting due to his short muzzle , seriously these people seriously ruin my evening , rant over and sorry for the punctuation

Don't let these people annoy you. The best thing to do when it comes to angry/stupid/offensive people is to rise above them.

I couldn't count how many times someone's dog has growled, barked or went for Logan only for the owner to turn to me and say it must be Logan's fault. A man's Scottish Terrier bit my hand as I bent down to put Logan's lead on when he was about 11 weeks and all the owner said to me was, that Logan was one of those dangerous dogs and he'd be looking into it.

I couldn't care less what people think these days tbh. My dog is friendly, trained to an extent, and is never off lead or let to run wild in public areas.

As long as you are being responsible don't worry about the rest. Smile

If she was the only annoying person there, keep going and just avoid her. You don't want the hassle and she's too much of a narrow-minded idiot to give your puppy a chance, so avoid her and socialise with the rest. Don't let it get to you, people can have such stupid opinions, and sometimes it's just ignorance and you can teach them something new, but sometimes it's just idiocy and stubbornness. Ignore those ones and enjoy the love of a Staff Big Grin

Hey Diff, i know your pain. Me, My wife and Marley just finished 6 weeks of socialization and basic obedience. We also has some problem people and their dogs. The group was very standoffish to the "snorting hyper pitbull". but the trainer did something so amazing. she did an intro to each and every breed and boy did that help. once people understood that she wasnt a pit and how she is just so excited for the companionship and socialization, they started to come arounnd. week 1, we couldnt find a soul to partner with us. by week 6, everyone wanted marley to partner. as soon as the owners would get there, they would bring their dogs straight over to marley for a greet and play.

All hope is not lost, dont let it ruin your experience.

There was a lady with a dog agressive terrier. By the end of the 6 weeks, her and marley were best buds.

There was one man though that pushed every single one of my buttons, and would not pay attention and would insist on his 6 year old son being dragged across the paddock by their black lab. they were a major distraction. i just learned to stay away from them.

Hang in there.

We're soooo lucky here in Aberdeen. We have a class which is run predominantly, but not exclusively, for staffie/staffie crosses and is so friendly and great fun ( Bacchus loves it). As for the anti-staff brigade, there is a tiny Dachshund and a Shetland Collie who attend this class and their handlers have no qualms about them mixing. I went to a mixed breed class during the winter break and it wasn't nearly as relaxed and, in my opinion, much too formal for our gregarious breed who love to greet people and other dogs.

BTW it's run by the president of The North of Scotland Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club.
