Dry Crate at night
Billy is in his crate at night and he goes to bed about 11pm and gets up about 6pm, he is taken out in the garden just before bed. He is still wetting his cage at night, we have had one or two dry nights and think yes, then we have a wet one. I thought he might have grown out of it by now.
What age approx do they have dry crates at night?
We still put newspaper down at night, does this just encourage him?
Anybody got some handy tips

Re: Dry Crate at night
do you wash hes bedding and crate properly after he wee's? as he might be able to smell the previous wee so thats why he might do it. Bruiser has been dry for about 2 months in hes crate

Re: Dry Crate at night
I had to put charlie in my room cos he kept soiling and weeing in his crate at night. I wondered if he was protesting about being left in the living room in his own at night so I put a bed next to my bed and sure enough, he's never done a wee or poo at night since. He stays on his bed all night and doesn't get up til I do at about half 6. It's up to you as to whether you want him in your room at night, but me and my husband are happy to have charlie in there and it's definitely worked for us with regards to him being clean and dry at night. Only thing is, he seems to have gone backwards with the daytime housetraining

Re: Dry Crate at night
It sounds to me its habit. He is old enough now that his bladder would be capable of holding on for that amount of time. Maybe to break the habit u could try getting up say 2:00am to let him out for a wee then gradully move the time later and later till your at your 6am wake up time. Not sure what else to sugest as normally dogs dont liike wetting their crates x

I certainly wouldn't put paper down, as it sounds like he's been trained to do a wee on paper, so he thinks it's ok!
By all means try him sleeping in the bedroom, but I think that by taking away the newspaper, and perhaps for a few nights getting up earlier just to let him have a wee will probably sort him out.

Molly used to be a pain for this, she would poo, wee and then scratch up all the newspaper, sending poo and wee everywhere.... Not very nice...
Every morning I'd come down to the same mess, then one day it just clicked...
It sounds like he's learning though, is he drinking a lot before he's going in his crate? Also, make sure he goes for a wee before putting him in there. It sounds like you're doing a brilliant job already though!

Re: Dry Crate at night
Milly sleeps upstairs at night and we have had no problems apart from first 2 nights. She goes in her crate in day and is clean I just make sure she goes out and I wait till she does something before we leave. I am sure you will get sorted Lynne.

Re: Dry Crate at night
well last night, we took all the paper out of billy's crate and make a snug bed for him with lots of blankets. Got up this morning and it was dry, hopefully this is not just a one off. Thanks everyone for your advise, we just needed the courage to take the newspaper out
