Hi, well we have had lexie for just over a week now (6 months old bitch) and hse is settling in really well, even the cat is coming round to her...sort of.

anyway in the last day or 2 she has been mouthing a lot more, her previous owners didnt tell her not to do this and encouraged her to jump up. we are trying with the sharp loudish no and ignoring her but she i still doing it...if not a bit more now, are there any other methods you could recommend.

its almost intimidating when you first sit down and she jumps at your face with her mouth open, she has caught my lip once or twice with her tooth, normally she is just trying to lick but she jsut gets it wrong sometimes. she never does this with my 3yr old son though, just me and the mrs.

i was wondering if its the lack of excersise on a tuesday and wednesday as neither myself or wife can get home on a wednesday to let her out so she only has 30mins in the morning and 30 mins on a night. otherwise she has 30mins morning, 30mins about 3.30, and then 30mins around 9ish.

One thing is to get up and turn your back on her each time she jumps up.
It could be due to a bit of boredom, even if you can't get out with her, play with her in the house, just playing catch in the hallway will help, Molly doesn't get a massive walk everyday, but always get some sort of physical play.

Don't worry, they do grow out of it, Molly was still pretty mouthy up until a few months ago, she's 14 months old now and still has the occasional relapse, especially around new people.

the 30min walks are out on the lead, each time. she also gets lots of play time at home. my 3 yr old loves walking her round the house with her rope toy and she just follows him everywhere Smile

she also goes out in the back garden every hour or so in the evening and weekends for toilet breaks. sometimes she is just out and back in again, sometimes she has a mad few mins and runs all over the place Smile

will try turning our backs on her as well though.

Yes, just be consistent. She'll get it sooner or later, it just takes a little while for her to realise that if she jumps or mouths she doesn't get any attention.
