possible bladder infection?
Hi all
I think Roxy may have a bladder infection. We noticed during her walk and the vet was already closed so will take her in the morning. Just wondering what you think :
She did vomit up her breakfast this morning hours after she ate it. Other than that she's been fine all day, sleeping and playing as usual. She ate her supper and then on her walk we noticed her leaking small spots of clear urine when standing still or sitting. She has been licking herself but that's normal. She did wee twice on her walk - normally it's only once.
Does it sound likes a UTI?

Re: possible bladder infection?
It's possible, although on those symptoms I wouldn't be too worried. Do you have any natural live yoghurt, or some cranberry juice? Both can help with a UTI, and both can help with just minor upsets, so worth a try.
If she's the same in 48 hours then maybe a quick trip to the vet?

Re: possible bladder infection?
Caryll's suggestions for relieving the symptoms of a UTI are good.
Just wondering if Roxy is spayed. Reason I ask is that both bitches I had in the past were spayed quite young, and one in particular developed urinary incontinence - not constantly, but especially in moments of stress. Just a thought.

It's possible. A course of antibs wouldn't hurt.
Was she recently spayed at all?

Thanks everyone. She was spayed around 7 or so months ago. She seems ok so far and I will take Caryll's advice re yoghurt and cranberry juice.
Vinny's due to go in today to have his neuter stitches out so we'll take Roxy along in any case for a check up. She seemed fine last night and didn't need to go out more than usual (she usually goes out once a night).
Will keep you posted!

Re: possible bladder infection?
As a quick mention: Roxy was diagonsed with deomdectix at the beginning of Jan. She has 3 weeks left of her shampoos, dips and dectomax syringe. I wonder if any of these would effect her tum in the long run? I just looked up dectomax and am not best pleased with ehow's description.
The mange started when Vinny first arrived home. I can't think of any stressors around at the moment - my OH was on leave for 2 weeks so she had extra, extra cuddles and he went back to work this week. But I work from home so they have me around all day
Mmm, one other thing I just thought of - she has been very dry and itchy from all the baths so we got her an oil that says to either add to food or topically. Have been putting it in her food and she's loved it. Ingredients: sunflower oil; grapeseed oil; rooibos and chamomile.

Please let us know how you get on at the vets, I'm sure they will know what's going on.

Will do! Waiting for the OH to get home so we can go together this afternoon. Roxy ate her breakfast this morning and had a good play with Vinny. They've slept on and off since which is normal and her bowel movements seem to have been normal (the farts are a bit smellier though )

Re: possible bladder infection?
Back from the vet. He said there was a bit of "milky discharge which isn't common with a spayed female but can mean a small infection." He gave her a shot of antibiotics along with a 5 day course. Hopefully she'll be A-OK!
And what a good girl - stood still and calm when being examined.

Re: possible bladder infection?
Roxy's cortisone shot wore off yesterday and she is still on the antibiotics the vet gave her last week, but last night we noticed her leaking urine again and she seems to be sore (warning Vinny off etc as per yesterday's post). Do you think I let the antibiotics run their course or is there something else I can do? Including the yoghurt/cranberry juice?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: possible bladder infection?
It could have to do with the age she was spayed and how much was removed during the procedure. Suki leaks a little as well on occasion and in addition to what Carryl recommended we also use pumpkin seed oil

Re: possible bladder infection?
I would say yes to finishing the course of antibiotics and try the yogurt/cranberry combo. How many more days is she on the antibiotics for ??

She has 2 and half more days of the antibiotics.
I called the vet earlier and he said it doesn't sound serious, especially since she is eating/drinking normally and her urine is clear and she is only leaking a little - not all the time. He also said with the cortisone injection, if she had a major infection, should have been urinating a lot more, which she didn't. He said we could pop past for a probiotic, but I'm leaning more towards the cranberry and yoghurt - I'm tired of antibiotics and pills!

Re: possible bladder infection?
It could be a result of early spaying. Hopefully not, though.
I'd wait till the end of the anti-bs and see how she is then.

Also hope not but have learnt so much on here about early spaying..I wish I'd joined the forum way before that as my mind has somewhat changed! We have also since changed vets (the first vet advised and did early spay) and I am so much happier with our new vet.
