Smile Little Advise Required

Post by Charlene_Frank Tue Mar 05 2013, 14:26

I’m planning on taking Frank and T with me on my next trip to Northern Ireland to meet my family (not far I know but it’s the 1st trip away for them).

Ill be driving from my house on the East Coast over to Cairnryan (around 111 Miles) so I think they will be fine for that, Frank will sleep as long as I let him and T will be has happy as ever curled up!! Of course ill be stopping for walks and water for them.

My issue is the boat! Do dogs get motion sickness? I know I suffer with sever sickness on boats so i dont want to put them through it but if dogs can get it is there anything I can get for them that will help?

Thanks

Charlie Frank and T

You may want to try the DAP collars as they have a calming effect on dogs. We use the spray in the car for Rocky on long journeys:

How long is it on the boat as I think they have to stay in he car on the car deck don't they , certainly on the Stena line sailing from Holyhead to Dublin anyway as 1 of our other members did it and I've never seen dogs on our Irish Ferries Crossings

I assume you'll be coming into Larne then. It is a very short journey. Logan has got sick after a long drive before.

Might be an idea to feed extra early that day or if the boat is early wait until after if possible.

Mainly young pups that get motion sickness due to developing ear systems, thats why lots of pups puke in cars. Should be okay as an older dog but as in humans ginger can help as a natural sickness preventative measure. Dogs like the staff have a 270° vision arc so have a good brain for processing lots of bobbing and weaving in there plain of sight.
Hope you have a good trip and a great time
