Rubbish walks :(
Well since Dragon doesn't get on with other dogs we try to find the quietest place to walk him, but all the kids are of school now so every time we go out we end up seeing someone with their dogs of the lead... Today for example 2 little kids about 10 or 11 with 2 big dogs without an adult, I mean that's dangerous, yes their dog might be friendly but not all dogs are friendly if their dog run towards mine and mine was on the lead we would be screwed, because I'm sure they would not be able to come get their dog, so we left... Bless him he's going all hyper around the house because he hasn't had a good run :/

Re: Rubbish walks :(
I know what you mean ! We often found this problem where we live.
My son is 11 and would not be able to control a small dog , so allowing children to exercise big dogs is just silly.
Hopefully It will be better when the kids are back to school . Do you know anyone with a v large garden so you could throw a ball there after a good walk maybe ?
Near us we have an enclosed tennis court that we sometimes used when there were lots of dogs about but you have to watch there isn't any glass

Re: Rubbish walks :(
That's a shame, but good of you to think ahead on these things. I used to walk Loki at 6-7am when it was dark outside, and then just as it was getting light enough, I'd let him off the lead so he could have a run around without it being a time where people/dogs are around. The things we do for our dogs

I normally get up really early and get away out when most people are sleeping in their beds. But lately I'm trying to get Logan more socialised when possible, only with dogs on lead.
Don't be afraid to tell the owner to call their dogs back and put him/her on the lead. As a dog owner yourself you are fully allowed to not want their dog to come over to you. If I don't recognise a person/dog I always ask the owner to pop them on lead. If you ask politely and don't panic they will always do it. Either that or throw a stick/ball for their dog until I get past.

Theres a lad about 12-13 up my way who walks past my house near enough every day ... with a bullmastiff If that dog wanted to get to another dog he would have no chance of holding it back!

Re: Rubbish walks :(
That sucks! Poor dragon
But hey, not long now til they're back at school and he can have the run of the place
Though I'm sure he'll be expecting you to bring him on extra long walks to make up for it

Re: Rubbish walks :(
I think it should be against the law for little kids to walk dogs, specially big dogs, when the dog is on the lead the owner should have full control of the dog and be able to hold the dog back if the dog pulls, a little kid would not be able to hold a dog if the dog pulled them, so there for they don't have control of their dogs.
I know I'm only 17 but I can control my dog if it pulls although he doesn't pull at all and even if he was of the lead if I called him he would com back, but their dog didn't seem to be that obedient as I could hear them shouting "come here!" as I was going, I'm just glad nothing happened there.

Re: Rubbish walks :(
I usually walk Rocky in a different place during the school holidays because I know how busy certain places will be. Always good to have a back up walk if you cannot do your regular one just seems to be the responsible thing to do, well done.

Re: Rubbish walks :(
i'm lucky where i walk around. there is lost of open areas and forrest. all the children where i live are too young to even go out side alone so i never have that problem.
you should never feel affraid to defend your dog though. when i lived in australia with our amstaffs i had no problem giving this one lab a good thumb with a stick and a boot for attacking one of our dogs. that dog didnt even have an owner with it it charged us out of its yard. it was just lucky at the time Gypsy was young and scared, when she got older though she had a horrible dislike for any dog that was black.

Re: Rubbish walks :(
Getting up earlier to walk him might be an option, depending on your own schedule. You could also try longer pavement walks until the kids go back to school, as well as active games throughout the day while Dragon is at home.

Have you not got a training line as an alternative
