Could have lost her...
...and before you all have a go, believe me I have learnt my lesson.
Needed to go to the post office which is on our route walk. Usually I take her into work as its just across the road, but we had the MD in so thought not a good idea.
Now I hate leaving Moo outside shops, I have done it a few times but only when I can still see her, so got to the post office and there is an A-bored by the entrance (a very sturdy thing).
Moo is great will sit and wait, never had a problem before, but I turned my back to take a ticket for the counter and heard an almighty crash, in a split second I turned around and saw the A-board go flying past the door, I legged it out onto the road to see Moo had pelted across it towards home, its a bloody busy main road with 3 junctions and 2 bus lane.
I screamed and she stopped, maybe not the best thing but it was immediate reaction, as did a bus coming one way, another the other and 2 cars. My heart was in my throat.
I had to appologise to the post office staff as she had broken the A-bored, and with that I burst into tears. It really did hit home how close I could have been for her to have been hit by a car, or me!
Lesson certainly learnt, something must have spooked her, but that does not excuse me putting her in danger. If she was a cat all 9 lives would be gone and I have aged 10 years in the process.
I feel very very lucky Xx

Oh, Janey, we all do things we regret afterwards! the main thing is we learn from them & move forward.
Nothing bad happened (apart from the board! ) and you know you won't let it happen again! ><

>< >< >< Poor you and Moo what a scare, don't feel too bad Janey she's safe and there are many on here having a go at would be warranted, but we all know you would never knowingly put Moo in harms way and a A sign i would of thought would of stayed put

Re: Could have lost her...
I just felt totally irresponsible, and if you could see the look on peoples faces.....
A little old lady came up to me after and offered to hold her whilst I went into the post office, her and telling you guys restores my faith in humans.
Honestly, it was the scariest thing I have ever been through, can't stop thinking what if.
Stupid me....

Re: Could have lost her...
Oh god, glad she's OK, that must've been terrifying I was panicked enough over Loki running further away than usual, I probably would've had a heart attack if that happened. Hope you're feeling a bit better now that the initial scare has gone though.
And I don't think it's irresponsible of you if your previous experiences have always led you to believe she'd wait fine for you. There's always a chance they do something different that we all have to be aware of, I suppose.

You're not stupid! It's something Moo's never done before, so it isn't like you could have predicted it. The main thing is that she's okay. >< >< ><

Janey I expect you are in shock, and although its a natural thing to do, please try not to think 'what if'. Both you and your girly are ok. Give each other a cuddle, learn from the experience and then put it behind you.
You are always on hand to reassure and help everybody else and now is the time to be kind to yourself.

There was someone watching over us for sure, it is amazing that we both came out unscathed. Of course she doesn't remember, she never even new what danger she was in, let alone me.
Thanks for listening, but I still scold myself XX

Re: Could have lost her...
What a scare Janey, most probably the sign was taken by the wind (it has been quite breezy at times today). Main thing is you are both OK and yes OK lesson learned.
Best thing to do now, have a good stiff drink, or some cider and give Moo a huge cuddle ><

So, if you can't get the 'what if' out of your head, maybe you should think about getting Moo a new home - Dempsey says he'll be happy to take her off your hands................ > >

My goodness. Heart was in my throat. I would be devastated if anything happened to our Moo! Don't feel too bad about it, we have all done silly things with our dogs.

Re: Could have lost her...
Oh Janey, I've only just read this. I've been through similar experiences with Kuchar, he is Houdini reincarnated I swear.
And I do know how it is going over and over in your mind, it did with me too.
The main thing is you are both safe, and yes tonight you will be feeling shaky, but tomorrow you'll feel a lot better I promise.
BIG hugs to you both >< >< >< >< ><

Thanks all, she has never done it before, and I certainly will not do it again. Still hate to think what the consequences could have been. And would have been my fault.

No it wouldn't, animals have a mind of their own. You didn't do anything intentionally. You're the best moo mum ever! ><

Re: Could have lost her...
That must have been horrible >< >< for you and moo. Like everyone has said the main thing is that you are both ok. Try not to beat yourself up over it. I've had a few learning experiences with mine and have felt like the most irresponsible person ever
