A Super Teething Puppy!
Hi everyone,
Just need some advice.. I have a Staffy pup who is going through teething. I have managed to get him into pig ears, but he still runs over and tries to chew my fingers. I have set up an appointment with a trainer who can help me, but that's not for another week. Just need some ideas as he is starting to bite harder. I just don't want him to begin thinking its ok to bite (especially my 7 year old).
Thanks

You could try freezing some of his toys or chewy things to help soothe his gums ? I bet others will know more than me as it's been a while since we had a pup

Ice cubes are a god send for me at the minute! My 2 SBT's love them! Also fill water balloons with water and freeze them then when completely frozen burst the balloon and you have even bigger ice cubes

Frozen carrots are good, and yes you'll get bored of your own voice by saying 'no' at that age

It won't be teething at 8 weeks just normal puppy nipping which you need to train out of him. Saying a firm no or using a high pitched squeal, ignoring him if he continues or removing him from the room for a few minutes if he is being persistent will work. It takes time but you have to be consistent and he will catch on that nipping is not the done thing

Good advice here. We turned our back and ignored Suki when she would nip as well. She would chase after us at first but caught on after a bit. Just make sure everyone is doing the same thing to avoid the pup becoming confused.

Persistence with whatever method you choose!!! It will stop, but don't get discouraged.
Some pups are worse than others at nipping i'm afraid. Bacon was EXTRA nippy and I used to think I had an aggressive puppy. When he was really nippy I used "Pet Corrector". It's a can of air that makes a hissing noise. It scares them and Bacon would stop right away. I'm not saying to go around terrorizing your dog, but one quick spray sends the message to stop. You can find it on Amazon.com and probably in your local pet store.
Good Luck!!!

Re: A Super Teething Puppy!
Ok so I ended up taking him to the vet who confirmed he has teeth coming through I bought some teething toys for him and they seem to be working like a treat. He is still going nuts with the pig ear lol.. As for the chewing on my hand, he has only done it once. I've given him Ice which consisted of him chasing it around the wooden floors for almost an hour lol. He had more fun licking it then chewing it. Will have to say the teething toy is working wonders.. It's obviously getting into the right spots. Thanks a heap you guys.. Your advice was awesome! But yeh ice and no really worked so far.
