Dempsey & Raw Feeding
We're coming off raw feeding - it just isn't suiting him nowadays & I don't really know why. Hopefully it'll just be a short term thing & we'll go back to it at a later date.
It's nothing I can quite put my finger on, & he loves it, but he just doesn't seem to be doing well on it. Vet says there's nothing wrong with him. I can only put it down to the stomach operation he had 18 months or so ago - his digestion just hasn't been the same since.

Hopefully a wee change wil help!
The only kibble I liked was Eden. My old girl is still on that, she gets the occasional raw day but seems to prefer the kibble!

Re: Dempsey & Raw Feeding
Aww poor Demps, well I'm sure you will manage to find something he does well on. Might take a couple of changes but as long as hes happy and healthy. I expect it probably is something do with the surgery he had, the digestive system is very sensitive and maybe a slight change or imbalance has made raw intolerable for him. We have gone back to 90% raw now, the girls got bored of biscuits and I felt mean not giving them raw when they obviously loved it so much!

Re: Dempsey & Raw Feeding
At the moment he's having a combination of lightly cooked beef, the beg biscuits he was having anyway and Latham's. He' enjoying it, but he loves food anyway.
I can't say exactly why I felt it wasn't working - just instinct I suppose. His pop has always been a bit hit & miss, but over the last week or so it's really sorted itself out.

Well fingers crossed for you that he settles more on his new diet

Re: Dempsey & Raw Feeding
The trouble is he'll eat anything - literally! I could put a bowl full of pencil shavings down with a bit of gravy on it & he'd eat it!

Re: Dempsey & Raw Feeding
Well since you never feed him Caryll and he's always starving what do you expect. (Well that was what he told me...)

Well I think he might of been fibbing, he also said he doesn't mind pencil sharpenings because they would add fibre to his diet!

He doesn't need any more 'fibre'. Last night he chewed a lump of rubber off an 'indestructible' dog toy and swallow it! Idiot dog.

Hi Caryll, you could pressure cook meat and veg and pearl barley all together, Lots of goodness and you can always add supplements (I know you dont agree with pressure cooked chicken carcasses )
When you say he's not doing well on raw, is he losing weight? Lethargic? or just off colour? Hope Dempsey sorts himself out, and you'll be a lot happier.

I won't be giving cereals of any sort, tbh. I can't give him any poultry as he's intolerant & I microwave the beef so that it's just cooked. If you cook it too much, like in a pressure cooker, you lose all the goodness anyway.
I can't really put my finger on how he's not doing well - it isn't really one thing, it's his general demeanour I would say. Since he's been on commercial (only been about 2 weeks) he's brighter & has a bit more energy.

Definitely. Been more eager for his meals, as well!

Re: Dempsey & Raw Feeding
Dempsey sounds like he is doing great on his new diet.
If it was my house and I had loads of raw meat and bones left over the kids would be getting them for tea
So how about some tripe and a lamb rib tomorrow Eleanor?

*cough* Crustaceans!
Shrimps and lobsters are crustaceans, not insects, but crustaceans and insects are closely related. Both groups (Classes, in this case) are in the phylum Arthropoda.
