Skin Infection
Our pup Brutus was diagnosed with canine dermodex in October last year. We have just finished the treatment and after 2 skin scrappings taken 1 month apart, he returned two negative results. So all clear. Anyhow, he is now showing small lumps on his body which appear to be infected hair folicles. I managed to squeeze one the other day and puss came out, however it hurt him and since then i haven't touched any of them.
Has anyone experienced this before? If so, how have you managed it?
He isnt itchy and the bumps don't seem to be oozing anything. Will they go away with time and it is his body fighting off any infection since stopping the treatment?
Thanks
Josh

Re: Skin Infection
I haven't come across this myself, but it sounds like the hair follicles are getting impacted. I'd have a word with the vet to see if there's anything you can do to help.

Re: Skin Infection
Sounds like pyoderma or folliculitis, a 2 wk course of antibiotics should clear it.

Re: Skin Infection
Well the vets put Brutus on a months worth or antibiotics. Have just come back from another trip where he had more skin scrapings done. All have come back negative for dermodex, but he is still showing the classic signs. After a lengthy, 45 min discussion with the vet, we decided to take him off everything for one month and see how he goes. He isn't itchy or scratchy so he's not uncomfortable, but he does have a few of the pustules remaining. He's seen three vets now and all are stumped. I think we have bought him a wing at the clinic though with the number of trips he's done in the last 6 months.

Re: Skin Infection
It could be after effects of the condition. Try not to touch or squeeze the pustules, as it could leave them open to infection. Hope everything turns out okay!

Hiya.
My pup Tank has similar for about 6wks. He's been on antibiotics for 4 weeks.
I've spend over £250 on tests, scrapes, bloods, biopsy etc all fine all clear.
I starred Tank on a strict raw diet with no treats, he has his raw everyday, spoonful of apple cider vinegar, spoon of goats milk natural
Yogurt, spoon of missing link skin n coat and twice to three times a day sprayed with http://www.aromesse.com/skin-problem/Skin_Conditioner_Spray.html
His spots have gone. Fur has grown back...awesome results and far less costly than the vets !!
I'm gonna stick with the spray everyday now, abd I've put him on a vitamin B and Zinc vitamin along with the above, being Blue and being a pup he's vulnerable.
I firmly believe natural alternatives are worth a shot, and building his immune system will help xx

Re: Skin Infection
So do you give a spoonful of acv in each meal?
Brutus has been on a raw diet now for the last four weeks and he looks much better. He gets oily fish twice a week as well as salmon oil on each meal. We wash him with epi-soothe once a week to try and calm his skin down but will be now washing once a fortnight.
Great o hear from someone who has experienced the same.
We don't squeeze them anymore. We squeezed one to see if it was infected and then it was straight to the vets. She squeezed a opulent today so as to view and test them. He does look better, but just the odd bump/pimple now.

Re: Skin Infection
ACV once a day. (tablespoon)
On randon spots I've applied pure TeaTree oil - just a dab on a Q tip or cotton bid. It's done the trick. But I do recommend getting the skin and coat conditioner spray and just persevere with it for 2-3 wks.http://www.aromesse.com/skin-problem/Skin_Conditioner_Spray.html

Re: Skin Infection
I'll try and get some of the spray sent to the OH parents place. We are in Dubai and the chances of getting that here are slim to none. Thanks for the advice on the acv. Will start adding it in from tomorrow.
Cheers

Re: Skin Infection
ok, here are some before and after pictures of my Tank.
Foliculitis - general hair loss on back of neck - and random spots on his back
after weeks of antibiotics the spots have cleared but to promote hair regrowth and keep his skin in a stable state i have used pet nat skin conditioner spray [see the link above]
fab results.
His coat is soft, shiny, spot free and he smells lush !
im going to continue with the spray - also using on my other dog to keep her fresh - and if i see either of them itch I will spray them.
so - if u can get hold of this spray them do so.
