Gentle! Empty Gentle!

Post by Oswald Mon Jan 28 2013, 04:36

I know I am a first time dog owner so totally not qualified to give training advice but, for Oswald and I "gentle" has really become the best training cue I could have brought in. It lets him mouth with "soft" teeth and I really do think it helped him learn between "not acceptable" mouthing and "gentle" mouthing.

So not sure if it will help others but all I did was just in a really calm voice say "gentle, good gentle" every time he mouthed nicely and ah ah!!/ignoring/removal, When he used too much force. I can now use gentle just as a reminder and I really don't need to use ah ah! Very often at all.

Hope this helps someone else with the puppy nipping issue xx

certain words can stick with them and a reminder every time does not hurt Smile
