I he has been using the crate as a bed thenocking him out of it will be confusing. Just leave the door open an let him decide when he's ready to come out.

Strange problem to have that, it's usually the other way around they won't go in or stay in. Why don't you just hang curtain over the door so he can come or go as he pleases

Usually the other way around...weird. It's his preferred place to sleep/relax I guess, so if he's comfy there, just let him stay there.

Maybe he just feels safe in the crate, as said already just leave the door open so he can come and go as he wants. A cover on the crate may be a good idea too.

We have had no problem with him in his cage when we first got him he was a gem going in there! he cryed once then i left the light on for a couple of nights, well mum and everyone else thinks its sad to leave him in his cage at night for his whole life so i brought him a big bed & now hes just really confused about where he's sleeping but last night i put him in the front room in his bed and he cryed a little until i got in to bed & he stopped but barked through the night a little because there was people going past the house he didn't fully wake until 9:00am Big Grin but now when we go out he isn't always caged and has the front room and hall to walk about in if he wants Big Grin

Why do you want him to stop using the crate? A lot of dogs use them throughout theirs lives and it becomes their den, or a safe place. I never close the door of Logan's crate.

Kathy's idea of crate covers or covering the crate will also help him relax.

Only just saw this part. It isn't sad all, he probably really loves his crate. As long as the door isn't closed he will have the choice of going in and out. Chance are he'll prefer to be inside.

I bought Logan a comfy bed once and he never used it lol. He prefers a few blankets in a quiet comfy corner.

Yeah, the people who live with me are saying it makes the room look untidy, but i would prefer to keep him in his cage if that is what makes him lost comfy Big Grin

If you were locking the door for days on end then yes thats cruel, but for my Cassie her crate is hers and it's her den, Cassie chooses to come in and out with her toys all day, Cassie feels safe if voices get raised even when we are joking Cassie runs into her crate and sits with her head sticking out of the door, it's her space her choice and i don't give 2 s***s wether it looks scruffy because it distracts peoples attention off the muddy paw print stains on the beige carpet Big Grin And Cassie has put her stamp on the house it's her home

I think i will take everyone's advice then and not get rid of the cage if he doesn't want me to!! when voices get raised in our house he run's to me and will not! come out of the front room until he is stroked and calmed Sad this is why i need my own place! Because he is scared of certain people in here & he snaps a lot of the time at them Sad

Firstly you may feel better with the crate if you stopped calling it a cage Big Grin
It's very well having your own place, but you are young and houses and dogs are very expensive, you have vets bills, pet insurance, food and equipment for Marley will you be able to supply these? Don't be in too much of a rush to move out Big Grin I sometimes wish i was still living back home
