Early spay...
Hello....sonic has been a touch under the weather and to cut a story short had a growth on her ovary. the vet recommended a spay in case it was anything nasty and in the heat of the moment i agreed.
This was on Wednesday and she is healing nicely ( and Kong halo collars are fantastic- will post separately about that on tried and tested) but now i am wondering if i did the right thing.....obviously it can't be undone but she is only 7 months and i was just wondering if any one else had spayed early without encountering maturity issues later.

Re: Early spay...
I think there are mixed opinions about it. Let me say first of all, you did it in her best interests - if the growth had turned out to be nasty, waiting could have done serious damage. I believe you did the right thing.
The GSD Dempsey loves was spayed early and has some maturity issues. She's basically an overgrown, scrawny puppy. But she's a very happy dog, besides that.

Re: Early spay...
I own a female 22mths old intact.
But if there was a medical issue that involved the reproductive system I'd spay her in a heartbeat. U have done the right thing IMO cant be too careful xx

I think you have done the right thing. Nothing more important than health.

Re: Early spay...
I had both of mine done young as well. It didn't seem to affect their growth at all as they were both on the larger side and had good muscle tone.

As said, you did the right thing.
No point worrying about maturity etc.
Your baby is still here.

Re: Early spay...
Lola was done at 6 months (long story, but i wish i'd have left it later)
she's mostly normal, just has her moments where she can completely forget her manners (and name) when she gets too excited, but for the most part, she's fine. she's 2 1/2 now, and build wise still gets mistaken for a pup, but from staff's ive seen out and about of various ages, physical appearance seems to vary quite a bit anyway.

Re: Early spay...
Never had any done under 2 so I can't advise in immaturity but you did it for medical reasons not selfish ones, so don't beat yourself up x

Re: Early spay...
Well actually when I think about it my retriever was a rescue so potentially she was done early. She was an old fart even when we got her and very rarely did she act puppyish.

I don't neuter at all, unless for medical reasons.
This was definitely a medical reason & you did the right thing to ensure her health. Don't worry about how it might have affected her, she is what she is & I'm sure you'll love her just the same!

Re: Early spay...
She is really good thank you; healing nicely and coping quite well with being quiet...lots of finding treats under pots and stuff.
the vet sent a sample of the growth for testing but is pretty certain it had not spread anywhere so long term it looks good which is the main thing!
